CLEANING PROBLEM - I've scratched the black plastic trim

I have a 2006 Sport. Unfortunately I cleaned the black trim sections between the back windows and the rear window with a ‘kitchen scouring pad’ to get some bird dropping off. The plastic side of the scouring pad has scratched the black surface quite badly. Anyone out there know what I can use to polish out or mask out the scratches?!? Andrew Kennedy

I managed to drag a fuel hose past mine and scored it. Yes stupid I know.
So what I did was.
1 buffed with 'scratch remover' on a sponge pad.
2 continued with a wet pad till it felt smooth.
3 still had a 'bloom' so got some very fine 'jewellers rouge'. (internet) and hand polished.
4 got and applier black 'filler' polish.
5 went to dealer and got a replacement panel fitted.
Perfect finish.
Of course next time I'll go directly to step 5.
Good luck.

I scratched the black trim on my A pillar with my jacket's zipper while inspecting a suspected windscreen chip closely. There was no chip but I noticed the scratches a few weeks later Big Cry Had some Autoglym Bumper Gel lying around that I had used to revive the panel between the front wipers and the bottom of windscreen on my previous RRS. Applied a little bit on the scratches and rubbed with a foam pad. Can't see the scratches now. Took less than 5 mins. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
