Locking wheel nuts on rrsport

Yesterday found i had a nail in my tyre.
Started to take the wheel off, put the locking wheel nut key over locking nut, turned but outer casing of locking nut just spins round.
Landrover assistance came out same problem.
The thing is, this has just had its 2nd service surely they would of had to take the rear wheels off during this?
Car is still under warranty, but will it cover having the nut drilled out etc?

LR Stealers WILL NOT remove wheels unless they absolutely have to .
The warranty should cover drilling /replacement of the stud and nut if you've got a full service history

Independent specialists like JE will still remove wheels / grease hubs etc.

I bought the wife an 06 plate audi a4 at xmas , 58k miles full audi history.
It took me 2 hours on a garage ramp to hammer the wheels off after all bolts removed. Shocked
You wouldnt want to do that by the side of the road

because the locking nut is softer than a normal nut they won't stand the force of a normal nut.

Good luck.

Mart
BTW , a relative of mine works for a nut supplier to LR....guess what ...they have recently been doing trials on wheel nuts in different grades of steel with different heat treatments and corrosion platings.
Maybe there is an issue??

Thanks for that, sounds interesting.
Just getting the main dealer to ring me back would be a good start.

Well my usual main dealer said they couldn't do it for weeks. (Not going there again)
Phoned another and the car was in same day. Drilled locking wheel nut out but alloy now Censored .
New alloy and all work carried out under warranty thank god. Should pick it up later today.

I have an even sillier problem. I've never found it - where do LR hide them on delivery?

Sure they are, but somewhere in the vehicle is hidden the nut that will unlock them! That's the locking wheel nut I'm looking for!

Yes, it will be in the boot.

These lock nuts gave us so much trouble that most owners here have just discarded them and use ordinary ones Very Happy Malaysia Boleh!

The locking nuts can cause absolute havoc when they fail and there are literally loads of us who've binned them. Thumbs Up

Unless left in a very dodgy area overnight it's going to be pretty difficult find the time to nick them. Besides, you can buy a set of the keys anyway... Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
