RRS buying advice

hi all, I'm looking at buying a early range sport, with my budget it looks like upto a 2007/08 and was hoping I might be able to get some good advice from fellow members/RR owners on things to look for when viewing/testing, I no the basics like bangs, clunks, electrics, smooth gearbox, and such things but have heard a lot of people saying stuff like, I love mine but it's cost me a fortune and there very temperamental, and there money pits etc but as always you only hear the bad I'm sure there are good and bad like everything. I'm sorry if this topic is covered already iv had quick scan through but couldn't see anything, please do comment good or bad with any advice,

Lee

Lee, I love mine, but it's cost me a fortune and they are very temperamental. And they are money pits. Rolling with laughter

Sorry, I'll get my coat........... Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

Spiffing wheel centre caps available

Best vehicle I've owned. Never had a vehicle have so much go wrong with it. But it's just a great place to be either on or off road.

I reckon it's the closest most men will ever get to a supermodel girlfriend; everyone looks at it and wishes they had one but only you know how much hard work goes in to keeping it happy...! Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I'll buck the trend. All I've had is servicing, bushes and the common tdv8 alternator. I think there is luck involved though.

Thanks for responces so far guys, so it seems like there has to be a proper passion for the sport and willingness to spend a good few quid on her to keep her happy and moving, I totally understand the need to have some funds always available for repairs and maintainence with these high spec beauty's, iv owned a few x5s and they are temperamental things themselves,
I'm 100% sure I want one and I'm defiantly going to get one its just trying to find a good one, I surpose it's just trying to check as much as I can to make sure everything works, taking it for a good test drive, and I think most important service history repairs to date and love it looks like it's had from existing owner. Thanks again and please keep the comments coming. Thumbs Up

P.s iv been searching for wile and would ideally like black on black but will compromise for good one, iv found and been in contact with this http://www.gumtree.com/p/land-rover/2007-r...1110466845 what do you think. Admin if this isn't allowed please remove and I'm sorry. Bow down Mr. Green

The main thing is that they're heavy, complex vehicles. They take a lot of maintenance and many problems that appear as "faults" are, in reality, just caused by wear and tear. They have complex electronic systems which can mean that problems can be caused by something completely different to the perceived culprit. Wink

This all adds up to make some think that they're unreliable, but the truth is that they're not. Yes, there are some duff ones around, and they have their issues, but, on the whole, when given a great amount of care, they can be very reliable. Thumbs Up

You'll have to expect a few problems, but with help from this forum and a good indy, they're great cars to own. If you can do stuff yourself you can also save a fortune. Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

On the face of it that looks like a fairly priced, unmolested TDV8. However, the wheel shows a fair bit of kerbing and the tyres are cheap budget Chinese ditch-finders. Seeing cheap tyres on one of these makes one wonder if money hasn't been spent elsewhere either. One would hope to find a big pile of receipts for work done - a simple stamped service history with nothing to back it up suggests that it's not been looked after. Or they've been very lucky and had nothing go wrong with it in way. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Yes good points mate, that's a good thought, budget tyres probably = budget maintenance, yes think I will give that 1 a miss, if I'm going to give someone 15k of my hard earned cash I want 1 that's been cherished, the search goes on.ha. Laughing

To be fair, the cheap tyres may be meaningless. For instance, I have some cheap tyres currently on my D3 because they came with some wheels I bought to have as a second, winter set. Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
