From that code alone, you cannot say that the HPFP is definitely at fault.
I imagine it has something to do with the price tag... And welcome to the forum. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 Auto HSE Zambezi Silver |

Hi,...Thanks for your input. Yes I'm no expert, but I was a bit suspicious. I'm planning to go back and ask them how they got to that conclusion. I have just been emailed the diagnostics print out (attached), maybe that means something to you as it also shows other codes.. I live in Spain, so its in Spanish, but perhaps the codes mean something to you..Do you by chance know of anything else that code might relate to that I could challenge them on...Id like to sound at least a bit knowledgeable if you could kindly advise me. |

I would think the filter and LP pump the most likely (and significantly cheaper) culprits and would always start there. An electrical fault is possible too.

Thanks for your input "lost for words"... A year ago an intercooler pipe split, resulting in the RRS kicking out black smoke and huge loss of power. Changed the intercooler pipe and all was fixed.. A year on, same symptoms but on a more minor scale. Car will travel a casual pace without issue, but if I turn up a slight incline and push the pedal a bit harder, car will hesitate, splutter and go into limp mode. Once I turn engine off and on again all is working normally (unless I apply anything more than casual power). Trouble is, down here in Spain all the garages seem to think foreigners are rich, so we always need to treed with caution on what they recommend. In your opinion, is there any way their diagnosis of the HPP could be accurate at this stage, just by using diagnostics machine? |

Sounds like the classic symptoms of a blocked filter/LP pump failing. Do you know when the fuel filter was last changed? The HPFP could be the cause, but the low pressure side should be ruled out first. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Its all a bit strange to be honest... I took it to an Indy last week for a fuel filter change, but when I later collected the car the guy told me he was NOT going to charge me for the filter change, as it was "nothing". But he told me I must take the car to LR to get it checked out for the power problem.. I thought it strange that he wouldn't charge me, plus he also said I get discount if I use his name there. All enough to raise my suspicious eyebrow!!!... (or perhaps he just figured what he looses on the filter, he gains at LR when he earns commission for the referral, who knows?).... Anyhow, I'm having the fuel filter checked on Monday, so I will know more then. I'm aware that my battery is on its last legs though, it went flat some weeks ago when I left the interior light and radio on for just two hours or so... it couldn't be related to that could it? |

It's probably not related to the battery - that is probably the cause of the U-codes though (they can be ignored unless you're getting symptoms).
That sounds as suspicious as anything to me! They stick a duff filter in, and get a referral fee from the dealer, you pay them for the HPFP pump to be replaced, then, as promised you're problem is solved - because they removed the duff filter. They get a nice wedge from it, and you think you're getting a discounted rate. Conspiracy theory or reality? Hmm... Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 Auto HSE Zambezi Silver |

Hello "Lost for Words".... you were kind enough to offer me some advice last week, so at the risk of boring you I thought Id update you to the probable end of my story... As follows, .... my car was not performing well at all, so I took it to a local garage. I asked the owner to change The fuel filter as I suspected The problem might be fuel related so I thought I'd start with the cheapest possible problem, so I hoped that perhaps the fuel filter may be blocked.. the garage owner ordered a new filter for my car and booked my car in for the following day. The following day I left my car with him, several hours later he phoned me to come and collect my car, when I arrived he told me that much was wrong with my car and I need to take it to Land Rover to get it fixed. I thanked him and asked him how much I owed him for the new fuel filter, to which he replied "no charge it's nothing", But I know those fuel filters are £60 so I tried to insist that I pay him. But he insisted that I didn't need to pay him, so I said that was very decent of him but I was a bit suspicious.

A great concern indeed. Sadly, you're far from the first to have had an incorrect and rather expensive diagnosis from a LR dealer, though this is a pretty extreme case.
Perhaps send a PM to Pete @ LR: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/member-liam-landrover.html Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 Auto HSE Zambezi Silver |
