My 07MY 2.7 did not come with trailer electrics and I bought the OEM loom etc and plugged it into the car systems. Used the black socket and it provides trailer lights etc as per Aust wiring layout. I removed the fuse to one taillight circuit to stop trailer electric brakes operating when the tail lights are on.

I only wired in the one socket and the other still sits in the spare parts bin. If I were to wire in the second socket what services does it provide?? Is it worthwhile connecting up?

This is for Aussie cars only.

only ever used the Black socket on my Trailer electrics.. that said i had to get a
LED module installed so the vehicle recognised when LED based systems were
being plugged in, otherwise the RPS went haywire and the trailer stability would

It has always amazed me that a car maker can sell a car with wiring systems, in this case the trailer wiring system that is not compatible with the specified system in the country of sale - and also that it is not compatible with modern trailer lights systems.

I would have thought that both would have been covered by Australian Design Rules and the vehicle would have to comply but obviously not.

As mentioned my trailer wiring is modified so that the trailer brakes do not come on when I put the headlights on and while my two trailers still have incandescent lights I build a pulse buster so that I can tow trailers with led lights.

I am still not sure what electrical services the white plug provides though. I think one of the pins does provide a steady 12v but not sure what its amperage is or what the other pins provide.

Opposite Lock who fitted the LED module told me they provided the mod on mostly European
marques, Audi, Merc, BMW etc, as well as LR's. Although one may have a permanent 12V feed
Neither of the sockets are rated for charging Trailer batteries (say for a Camper Trailer system)
so got OL to also add a Battery isolator and run a fully rated cable with anderson connector and
co-located these with the rear tow electrics.. So when towing i can recharge on the go

I also have a Anderson plug setup and it works fine - your point about a low power 12v source in the white plug is valid bit because it is low power it is really not much use for anything then begs the question what use is the white socket.

Barry - thanks for that pic. I really cannot see how standard RRS wiring can support the power needs to charge a battery in a camper - especially over the 5 to 6 m from the engine bay to battery in the trailer.

From that, I guess there is no need to plug in my white plug and I might just stay with my anderson plug and heavy wiring.

I thinking more I think I will plug in the the wiring to the car but cut off the white plug and run the wiring to two new 12v sockets (pins 4 and 6) in the cargo area as the current single switched 12v socket is a pain when the ignition is turned off.

Also in the above socket diagram, what is the the number 5 socket - sensing device??

Only thing that I could find on the 12S socket was this which shows pin 5 as a spare!

Thanks for that - I see that the fridge wire is switched like to one in the rear - not much use for a fridge on a hot day when parked for a while. 07MY RRS TDV6

I have a 06 Sport which had both white and black plugs fitted.
Just to add/clarify to the posts and diagrams.
The black 7 pin socket is set up for Aust.
1. Yellow - LH blinkers
2. Black - Reversing . Not Fog lights ?? But also used for Aux. Power if no reversing lights. See below
3. White - Earth
4. Green - RH blinkers
5. Aux. Electric Brakes
6. Red - Stop lights
7. Brown- Parkers.

This is different to the diagrams showing seperate wires for the left and right parkers.
I was told that the white socket was for U.K. vehicles. Which is partly correct if you have the Fog lights and seperate the parkers you are going to need more than a 7 pin plug.
I have a van and although the Anderson plug with heavy wiring running from the battery (with cut off switches) may be required for Big fridges. I have found that by running the Pwr wire from the white socket via the fuse holder under the boot floor (easily accessible)into the back of No.2 in the Black socket provides adequate Pwr to run the fridge in the van whilst on the move. It did between Melb. and Bundaberg 3 days of 25 degs +.
Proviso is that the Fridge is cold before you start.
