HST Value with 5 owners

Hi I'm looking for some advice,

I'm going to look at a 2008 HST this afternoon, it is in immaculate condition and been recommended to me by a local Indy, who carries out the maintenance.

The car is on a 2008 plate with 51k on the clock, but with 4 former keepers 5 owners . The owner explained when he purchased the car it had 2 former keepers 3 owners, but when he came to insure it, he could not afford the cost, so put the vehicle in his fathers name.

Does any one have any advice on the issue with how many owners and how this would affect the value now and if I re sell in the future ie it will have had 5 former 6 owners.

Unless you're buying from the first owner, it doesn't really make a difference how many owners a car has had as long as it's got the service records to back it up.

It also depends on the type of vehicle; desirable cars tend to have a high number of owners because it's usually an itch men have to scratch, my friends AM DBS was four year old when he bought it and it had already had 4 previous owners...

i think it makes a massive difference on the value thats why any car dealer will always ask how many former, you wouldn't buy a car with 10 former keepers unless it was priced accordingly and i can tell you by experience the more owners the harder to re sell Thumbs Up silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone

Differing opinions, for me as long as its low milage, the HPI check is clear, full dealer service history, and a reasonable amount of previous owners I'm not too concerned.

I always ask to see the log book first though to make sure it wasn't a hire car.

But everyone has their own way of deciding whats right for them.

I think its another myth that it affects value, occasionally used by some dealers. Out of all the hundreds of thousands of used Range Rovers in existence, no doubt there are a few where just by chance, they have been changed every 18 months or so by owners

Check out the average used Ferrari, they are even worse, seem to get bought on a PCP deal and resold just before a the next big service is due....more owners than years old on some.

Wouldnt worry about it, just do all the usual checks on history .... cheers

+1 for the history is more important than the number of owners

May be an issue if the last couple only owned for a month or two suggesting bought and getting shut Question

But I for one like swapping cars and after a year get the next itch to scratch Rolling Eyes

Boxster I had was 12 years old with 9 owners, impeccable history and car, sold to local specialist dealer who snapped it up and moved it on for a profit very quickly Big Cry

1 owner cars are nice but history is better Thumbs Up

I cant help but think that a lot depends on what you intend to do with the car. If you are just trying to scratch an itch then maybe the number of owners is less important that a full and proper service history. On the other hand if you want a keeper then the less owners the better. It took me 18 months to find mine, a one owner full LR history car in the colour I wanted. The car was nearly 160 miles away but I got what I wanted and I have no thoughts of selling it any time soon.

At the end of the day the price is secondary to the Value, assuming it is what YOU WANT. Very Happy Thumbs Up

very easy to offer all of these opinions until your seller,i spent 30 years in car dealing and can hand on heart say the more owners the harder the sell,i have had many punters walk away because of the amount of registered keepers,so take it from me the more owners the less its worth, don't get me wrong i don't agree with it but it is a fact Whistle silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone
