United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Lux Santorini Black
Optional brake fluid service

My RRS is 2years 7 months old and going in for its 3 year service at about 36k miles. It runs perfectly.
The dealer has advised that I have the brake fluid replaced as well at an extra cost. WTF? If the fluid must be changed every 3 years then this should be part of the service, and if it doesn't then just tell me when it does. How am I supposed to make this choice other than by saying "I don't want to spend another £130 thanks all the same".
Also the dealer service staff seemed unaware as the whether or not my precious 2 year Land Rover warranty demands this and would be invalid if I don't have the work done. Can anyone help?

Have look here:

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/us...0Sheet.pdf

Standard LR and most other manufacture's recommended interval for brake fluid Chang is every three years.

Brake fluid tends to pick up moisture and dirt at the caliper ends of the system and this leads to corrosion and or sticky pistons. Regular fluid change should be preventative for brake problems further down the line.

It only takes a half litre of fluid and half an hour max so the cost is a bit of a rip off. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

£130 is ludicrous. Assuming it's the original LR warranty (not an extended one), you should be able to go elsewhere as long as genuine parts and correct fluids are used but you must have it done. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

It is part of the 3year/36k service also say's it will be at additional cost. this sheet is for pre facelift but I wouldn't think it's to be much different on the facelift variant. If you don't have it done and have any warranty issues they may get really anal and reject it as you have not had it serviced in accordance with the manufactures schedule.

Not suggesting they would for one moment, but L/R are not actually renowned for looking after their customers interest.

Brake fluid used to be tested for moisture content and if too high it was changed. These days dealers just change it without testing to make a bob or two, a bit like engine flushes. Take it to an indie and get it tested, then if necessary change it.

But, as part of the service schedule, the OP must have it done unless he wishes to void his LR warranty. Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I asked an LR dealer about changing the brake fluid and they just said "we just test it and if it's ok we don't bother". Seems to me that most garages these days (that includes LR dealerships) just want to do the simple "big sticker" stuff i.e. a service at £500 for an hour's wipe round with an oily rag. They're not interested in actually maintaining the vehicle. We need more people like Disco_Mikey and others that advertise on these forums. People who want to work on the cars. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Off Topic It will be interesting to see how those of us who have taken out the 3 or 5 year servicing agreement fare when the time comes round to doing this sort of job - will it be covered or not? Unless you speciaifaclly ask, under the pre-paid service agreement, you don't even get a breakdown of the work carried out on the car. I recently had my Evoque given it's first service under the scheme and the dealership doing it gave me a sheaf of paperwork and thorough description of everything that had been done and the service reception people went to great pains to point out that what they were giving me wasn't required by LR and was a print out of what had been logged on the service records database at JLR. Morrison's Land Rover at Stirling seems to be one of the very few dealerships that do this - and long may it continue - as it appears many dealerships don't give customers the printout or tell customers how they can access the info on-line. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
