Hi, new member considering purchasing a RRS TDV8.

I would like to see what people think about 2007/2008 RRS TDV8 HSE with mileage above 150k?

I've been reading many posts about common issues such as:

turbo replacements
front suspension bushes
active roll bar
compressor on air suspension
gearbox flushing
brake disc's & pads

Have I missed anything obvious? any help gratefully received.[/list]

Personally i would keep well away from something with that sort of mileage,
You end up spending a fortune just to keep it on the road.
Anything with that sort of mileage is just asking for nothing but trouble.

If you can get one for a good price then why not? Buying a newer / lower mileage one won't guarantee a trouble-free ownership experience. These things seem to throw issues at random and some people with young ones have had lots of issues and those older ones have been fine.

As always, condition and history are key. Buying an older one at a good price means you can put money aside for issues. Buying a young one at the top of your price range means you need to rely on any warranty you might have.

Turbos and anti-roll bar failures are random and don't appear to have anything that shouts "this car is a risk".

Suspension bushes are considered consumable items on D3/RRS so don't worry about them unduly.
The compressor will need doing at some point - again it is almost a consumable item.
Gearbox will need the oil replacing at 150k. Indeed, if it hasn't been done before then you should budget for it straight away. Also check that the transfer box and differentials have had oil changes done too. Make sure the transfer box works correctly. Many will never have the low range selected except at service.
These have heavy vehicles and they do use brakes quite quickly if driven enthusiastically. Also they use brakes quickly if you use them off road a lot as the traction control systems use the brakes to control the vehicle. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I wouldn't consider 150k high mileage now.

All the things that are likely to fail will of done but I'm sure they will go again.

Getting the gearbox flushed seems to say forward v's just draining it.

Just make sure it's good value for money.

How much are they going for?

I'd get one if I knew it had the work on it. Essential is bushes to be checked as my v8 just had them done there and were done previously. Turbos for sure, make sure they were recently done as they clog up. Run a terraclean over it and do the gear box oil and you have done all you need to do. There is sensible things like oil and filter change ~ twice a year if you can and don't drive it like a mentalist.

No probs at all with a high mileage sport, the younger ones always had niggles and they get fixed - but this can take 40 - 50k before they appear. Engines settle and you know a lemon when you get in it. Listen for knocks, listen for the engine and dont jump at the first one that you see. Shop around and test a few out so you get a baseline of how they feel. Then you will know a good one. Best of luck man, I love mine. It's 125k now and I drive it every day lots!
