Mechanics takes customer car for 118mph joyride!

Quote:
A motorist was horrified when a dashboard camera revealed reckless garage mechanics had driven his car almost double the legal limit - reaching speeds of 118mph.

Once had a customer complain about a vibration through the car on the motorway...

Road tested it, no vibration.

Told customer, who took it away, and returned 10 mins later, complaining the vibration was definitely there.

Road tested again, still no vibration...

Turns out there was only a vibration above 105mph Laughing

Come on, apart from being illegal 116mph in itself is no great shakes as far as the car's concerned. Sure its a safety issue if its in the hands of the in-experienced, the wrong place and traffic conditions.

When I was in the motor trade selling some 'flash' cars it was not uncommon for customers to complain of high speed faults which is a dilemma - try (usually early morning quiet road!) to duplicate conditions find the fault or tell the customer to go elsewhere ?

There was something on the radio news t'other day about something similar happening at a Halfords service centre. I wonder if they got it wrong and it was actually "Ford" not "Halfords". I could understand them taking it to speed to check the speedo as requested but all of the reported undertaking and general misuse is unforgivable.

Either way, we have seen similar at a LR dealership (Hartwell's at Oxford (now Ridgeway)). I remember it made the local paper and involved the Sport belonging to a member of this forum. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If someone wants to thrash there own car I've no problem with it and hope when they lose control it's only their life that's affected and not innocent people minding their own business Evil or Very Mad

However I would happily pursue criminal charges and expect them to lose their job if they did this to my motor. Being a mechanic doesn't give you the right to have fun in someone elses motor just because they can afford something you can't Rolling Eyes

An ex lr technician from local dealership now closed told me about one of these jollies ending with customers LR through hedge and repaired without customer being informed to avoid publicity. I myself gained 100 miles on the clock while last rrsport was in a LR dealer. Neither of these dealers would see my ugly mug or hard earned cash again Shocked

I heard the Halford story on radio and it was a different case - only doing 58 in 30mph limit Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Good response by Halfords - refund and mechanic out of the door.

The LR dealership's response, if I remember correctly, was more akin to " Censored off, we don't care"... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
