Hello All,

I have just bought a 2008 3.6TDV8 which has 22" alloys with 285/35/22 tyres and Brembo brakes. Can anyone tell me if I can put 20" alloys with a Grabber AT tyre size 275/45/20?
It's the deepr tyre I want for a softer ride, and I like the Grabber tyres as I had them on a Toyota Landcruiser for years, albeit the Grabber AT2 which I don't think you can get for a 20"?

The TDV8 came with 20 inch wheels so they'll fit fine. 275/45 should be ok too. The Grabber AT gets a bit noisy as it wears - so I've found anyway with my 255/55/19 versions.

Make sure that if you're not fitting LR alloys that the ones you do fit are suitably load rated.  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

You can even go down to a 19" wheel - but you have to be careful as even some of the LR OEM 19" designs will not fit over the brake caliper. I ran my TDV8 on Goodyear MTR's on 19" Disco3 wheels. If you have loadsa money there is a special Compomotive 18" Wheel that they designed for the Bowler RRS-a-like that also fits but they were specially made for Bowller and therefore very very expensive - and they are the right load rating for non-Bowler RRS's
Excuse the backgound, but this was the style of Disco3 wheel that will clear the brakes (shown against my L322 FFRR) to see what they looked like for somebody.

Thanks for your help, I'm still getting my head round this stuff and got a bit spooked when the Stratton LR garage told me only a 20" wheel will go over the Brembo brakes.
If I could get a Grabber AT tyre for a 22" rim I would go that route. Is there an all round winter / off road tyre with a deeper profile that would fit on the 22" rims I have?still a bit unsure which way to go here ?

Munty - give AJS Tyres, who are forum sponsors a phone, they have been very helpful to me regarding going down to 20" AT2's - there are some new Grabbers coming out in the next month for RRS that may be be of interest to you, not sure if they will come in 22" but they are RRS specific if my understanding of what Andy at AJS told me is correct. The problem is getting the right speed and load ratings for the car - and not causing you insurance problems running an unsuitable rated tyre too 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

In my experience, LR dealers don't actually know that much about the vehicles they sell. I've had discussions about my own vehicle and about possible replacements with both sales people and service people and realised I knew more about the product than they do. Dear all,

Is there enough clearance between tyre and wheel arch for me to replace my 285/35/R22 with a 285/45/R22 ?

I want the deeper side wall for a softer ride, but don't want to downsize the 22" rims, as they look so good.

Has anyone done this who could reassure me that there is enough room?

Did you ever try 285 45 r22 Munty ?

I have 275/45/20 grabbers on mine, a previous owner had them fitted at approx 63,000 miles, the ca4 has now done 93,000 miles, so can vouch they last a long time.

I’m not a fan though of the aggressive look and can say they are noisey, but then again I’ve not driven it with 275/40/20 normal road tyres. I can’t wait to get the grabbers off to be honest!
