Sorry to reopen this old wound, but here is some interesting test evidence that suggests no benefit from 2SO and the possibility of injector fouling.

http://www.fuelexpert.co.za/2-stroke-oil-i...-study.php

Yet again we still await some actual test evidence that 2SO gives any measurable benefits. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I don't see how that article/those tests can prove any more conclusive than the many reporting improvements in fuel consumption.

Clearly, it suggests that there is an improvement in lubricity and the Cetane number, all be it small.

The test for injector fouling can only be described as inadequate - they used one type of 1.4l engine. I want to see a whole variety of engine types/size/mileages and 2SO types before I could consider it good evidence.

They have not taken account of any possible long term effects on injector wear either (all be it difficult to do).

I don't claim that they are incorrect in their findings, only that they are not thorough enough by a long way. I also don't claim that the witnessed results are any great scientific proof but I for one see a clear and easily achieved improvement with 2SO and I'm very, very far from alone. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Agree that lubricity and cetane are slightly improved which is why I have been using it for over 8 years in my vehicles, but my concern was the issue regarding zinc content. Although I have not experienced any issues so far, and I have never heard it raised as an issue before. does all 2SO have the same zinc issue?
Looked up the JASO standards and no reference to zinc content.

I would assume that they will all be broadly similar but it would still be good practice, in my view, to test many different types. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Just read the report again, zinc content measured was 15 parts per billion!!!! Laughing
If I drive until I am a hundred its hard to see that accumulating to more than a pinhead. Laughing

There are evidenced tests that show that it is, at best, no better than good fuel. I have yet to see evidenced tests that show it is better for the engine as some on the web claim. It seems to be a bit of a religious thing in some quarters with discussions getting very heated and even personal. Not here, though, because we play nice! Thumbs Up

On the basis that there is no proof that it is good for the engine, I'm wary of using it - indeed, I don't use it as I just use Shell, BP or Esso "super/nitro/ultimate" diesel in my TDV8.

Whether others use it is up to them but I think it only fair that evidence, from both sides of the discussion, is provided whenever it is found. Evidence is always better than supposition Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

T'was fine in old fashioned diesel engines with relatively low pressure systems and mechanical injectors.

In today's high speed engines with high pressure rail systems and/or electronic piezo based injectors its a completely different engineering story.

Just stick to good quality fuel.

I'm a qualified automotive design engineer ( now rtd) and you'd not find any such stuff going near the tanks of any of my cars Thumbs Up

Well, after all of that filled up with diesel today and added my usual 2SO in the tank. Shocked

Just had a look at this link, As this issue is that the process cleans carbon from working parts of engine, then the bores and pistons will be cleared of build up of carbon. And on an older engine will result in lower compression. Not a good thing itisme

Yes Harry, I read all that 8 years ago when I started adding it.
No issues so far, my BMW X5 has received it for the 8 years. RR Sport only 3 years old. Disco 3 received it for 5 years prior to tradein. Yawn
