2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Sellers - beware of internet scammer

Hi guys

I am getting rid of my 2000W Range Rover DSE and though I would put the details on Gumtree.

First response within probably an hour was this guy:

" hello am mark henry, how i wish i could come and inspect it but currently i'm working away from the country. I'm a marine engineer who is presently working on the ship..so i'll be buying it without seeing it,

Also I'll be paying via PayPal and i'm more than happy to pay the PayPal transfer charges too, i'll arrange the pick-up of it with a Private Courier Service as soon as you get your payment, and they will also help me sign the bill of sale so it goes onto my name.so tell me its condition and do you have more pictures of it."

Needless to say the email just stank and so I did a quick google and came across another guy who had a similar experience - AVOID RESPONDING!

his email address was markhenry22234@gmail.com

Maybe everyone on here should drop Mark Henry an email offering him a fake FFRR/RRS if he like to buy it unseen.............. now how many members have we got? Would give him a test answering them all and block his mailbox for days! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

PayPal only covers you, if you can prove the item has been posted/sent out etc.

You reply and they then ask for your name
And details so they can pay you.

They then advise they have sent payment

You then receive an email (in my case) from Mr John Sandford from PayPal

John advises me that buyer has deposited £50,000 into my account but it's stuck in there pending a fee

John asks me to send the money via western Union to his address in Lagos (actually it was an address in the USA)

I kept John Sandford from Paypal very frustrated with my apparent lack of competence in sending him the money, asking him to teach me how, then saying I'd sent it to the wrong address etc

This was when I was bored and selling my M3

I'm sure this scam is about as old as the RR you're trying to sell.

But this hassle is part of the reason I hate selling cars.

The other version of this scam is the "overpayment".

Say the car is £35,000, they send you via Paypal £40,000 and request that you send their UK Shipping Agent the extra £5,000 to cover collection and shipping. You pay the £5,000 to the "shipping agent" only to find a few days later that the original £40,000 did not clear and Paypal have withdrawn it. However the £5,000 you sent was real money from your account. Therefore the fictitious shipping agent has £5,000 of your money.

They do not want your car, they want your money. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

It appears that you don't just have to be careful of scammers, but murderers too...........
