Hi and good to hear of another intrepid TDV8 owner saving himself a fortune and getting the jobs done properly!

Choosing engine oil is a mixture of choosing the correct spec which is Ford WSS M2C913D and personal brand loyalty. For what its worth I've been using Mobil Super 3000 Formula FE 5W-30 and the engine hasn't blown up yet. Best place to buy it is ECP or Halfords or Advanced Factors as the prices change regularly with promotions. Use only genuine oil filters and make sure you know how to engage the little spigot properly or the result will be catastrophic engine failure. Change the oil religiously every 7000 miles despite what the manual says.

Advanced factors for the diff oil but the transfer box oil is a weird one so go for LR supply from Duckworth parts.

Definitely go for change of air filter for a top quality one and hoover out any debris in the airbox as even the tiniest bit of detritus can smash the turbine blades.

Change the cabin pollen filter for a good one with activated charcoal - a 5 minute £10 job and maybe a air conditioning cleaning 'bomb' for a lovely fresh clean atmosphere.

Something else to consider is an engine coolant change but the correct stuff is hard to find outside of an LR dealership.

If you are handy with a spanner change the auxiliary drive belt. Being a TDV8 there are no cambelts to worry about Thumbs Up

If still looking to improve things go for a brake fluid change and check brake pads for wear and strip and clean the parking brake shoes and adjust them as these can give trouble if not regularly serviced.

You didn't ask about gearbox fluid but unless already done have it megaflushed by one of our resident experts - much better to do before problems start rather than afterward.

Finally an easy couple of jobs is carefully clean the MAF and MAP sensors and put a bottle of Millers injector cleaner through the tank.

Taken all together could cost less than a minor service at a Dealership and you should have a quieter running, faster, more economical, sweeter smelling and more reliable rocketship.

What's not to like? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Oils Aint Oils.

If you love your car and want to keep it for long time without any hassle service it more regularly.

This is what I do.

For every service I use Liqui Moly Diesel Engine Flush. Just add to normal engine temp run for idle for 10 mins.
OIL very important. I go to my local dealer and buy Genuine Oil in my own container. I refuse to use any other OIL even Liqui Moly is the same Oil but I prefer to use the correct OIL.

Fuel & Oil Filter Replace with every service.

Always Add Diesel conditioner in full tank every time. Again Liqui Moly Diesel Booster conditioner.

I change Air Filter every 2 Service but do clean them for every service.

For Tran and Transfer case again I will use genuine oil.

Hope it helps.

Hmm...

Don't know if it is different in Australia but in the UK I think you will find that the dealerships just buy oil (hopefully of the correct specification) in bulk from whichever supplier gives them the best price. There is no engine oil unique to Land Rover. If you buy your engine oil from the dealership you will be overpaying for an oil and you don't even know for sure it is the correct specification for your engine.

Many garages will (without asking you first) use engine flush and then add an extra £10 to your invoice. The use of engine flush has been discussed many times on many forums with contributions from engineers with the qualifications to back up their opinions.

The informed consensus is that these products do more harm than good since they are strong detergent oils and some will remain in the engine to contaminate the new oil installed at a service and degrade its lubricating properties . The use off engine flush by garages is just a scam to get another £10 out of customers who don't know any better. It is snake oil - do not use it.

Not changing the air filter every service is a false economy - and they are not designed to be cleaned. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Use of Engine Flush is not new and a best practise by leading workshops including dealership. When you flush the engine you run it on idle for 6 minutes to clean all the interval valves and other engine components which do require cleaning. Especially if you service your car according to the service intervals.

When you drain the Engine Oil and replace Oil filter all the oil gets drained. Use of the engine flush Like Liqui Moli Pro Line not only cleans the engine internal components but also makes the Oil really think like water so drainage becomes more easy compared to just drain normal oil.

I have been using Liqui Moly for years and never had a problem. It prolongs engine life.

Air Filter yes you can clean it by Air Compressor. If you are just driving normal conditions without any dusty or Off Road use there is no need to replace the Air Filter every time you are changing your engine Oil after 10,000 Kilometres. Yes if you do your service according to service manual which is more than 10K than you must change the Air Filer otherwise its a waste of money.

Yes dealers buy the Oil in large quantity and the Oil Castrol is exactly to vehicle manufacture specifications. That's why I take my own container to get the required Oil.

Same principal goes with Fuel Filter. I change it with every 10K service because you never know what kind of fuel you are adding from different petrol stations.
