went car looking today - had a few surprises...

well Mrs Waylander really hasn't got a clue as to what she wants so we were looking at ideas as diverse as a diesel cabrio to a mid-size SUV, the only stipulations were it must be able to (occasionally) hold her mother's wheelchair and then give over mid 40's in mpg. To that end today we went to look at the German manufacturers with a couple of surprising results...

Pre-trip favourite of the Q3 is likely out of the picture - loved the panoramic roof but the interior didn't feel that much better than the Astra she has and for £30k that seems too much to stomach.
A5 cabrio - still feels good, A3 boot too small, TT cabrio boot too small (no surprise there!)
420d cabrio - boot too small, ditto 220d cabrio.
Pre-trip 'wild-card' 640d cabrio is romping up the inside, so to speak, looks stunning very comfortable ooodles of toys feels quality.
E-class coupe was crossed off, looks cumbersome, E-class cabrio still a consideration.

The real surprises of the day were the Tiguan which actually seemed a nice place to be (far rather have one of those than a Q3, which quite frankly stunned me) and the VW Beetle cabrio (shame the boot is too small as it really made me smile, a lot)

Funnily enough a couple of other ideas popped up over the course of our travels - c-class coupe with panoramic roof, 4 series coupe with (possibly even 4wd), 6 series coupe with panoramic roof. I guess as with the cabrio Mrs Waylander is concerned it's maybe too good a car to be used for commuting, shopping etc though it certainly has the luxury part of her brief in spades!

I love car shopping!! lol

Forgive me, but what a strange idea. A car is intended to convey one from place to place. Those places include work and shopping. Having a nice car to commute in makes the chore of commuting much nicer. Having a nice car and never using because it's "too nice" boggles me.

I could sort of understand it if we were talking something silly like a Ferrari 250GTO or a McLaren F1 but a mass produced car? Boggle. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Interesting views, and Tiguan vs A surprise me. Over here the Tiguan is all plastic and Q3 a very nice place to be.... Neutral

Did you look at the audi A7? I think is a lovely motor and has a large boot, plus 4 doors over the 6 series.

Just my 2p worth, oh and the biturbo diesel is meant to be a Belter.

Cheers

I'll agree that the Q3 we sat in may not have been top spec whereas the Tig most certainly was - however for us the Tig was nicer to sit in Confused

As regards the too-nice comment - that is also one of the reasons the RRS doesn't get used as much (that and the size, which then may well count out a 640d Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry ), it's nearly 3x as much as the previous most spent on a car (maybe that freaked Mrs W a little) so the initial plan was to have a daily hack and a weekend nice one... problem is having the Mustang too there's already a weekend nice one lol Poor planning it seems Embarassed

My wife bought a Tig last year and she loves it, I must say that I also like the way it drives.
Far better than the Rav4 she had before it.
