Intermittent Driver Side HID Failure

Hi all, newbie so apologies if this is covered to death elsewhere.

Had my 2010 rr sport for a couple of weeks (1 of which was parked at Heathrow Airport so hasn't had much use), and I noticed yesterday that the driver side HID did not come on either under the Auto setting or main beam setting, and no warning on the dash. Came out this morning, and it came on. Dropped kid off, restarted, and again no HID on driver side.

Seems unlikely to be the bulb in this scenario right? as it would either be working or not, or maybe some flicker if on it's way out?

Any ideas? Ballast issues? are these common?

Cheers for reading!

Swapped the bulbs around and issue persists.... Booked into dealer for review... Glad I got that warranty.

Quick rant because why not.... So, Land Rover had the car all day on Friday.... Picked up at 5:15pm... "Sorry Sir, we haven't been able to do much on your car today, and as you have a Revere grill this requires unbolting to access the headlamps".... Ummm, 4 Allen key bolts and grill pops off no different than standard grill.... So basically they did F all but waste my time..... "The earliest we can rebook you is in 2 weeks time" Banging Head

Not the best introduction to ownership.... In comparison Audi have always been awesome with the RS4. B7 Audi RS4 Saloon - Current

You are lucky they even looked at that under warranty as Revere is 3rd Party and normally an LR dealer doesn't want to know about things that might have been touched by 3rd party modifiers. RS4 on the otherhand is just a standard unmodified model in the Audi range. Did you buy the modified car from that dealer or have it modified after purchase? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I'm surprised an LR dealer would retail a modified car on their approved used scheme if you bought it through a Land Rover dealer, usually they are paranoid about reselling modified cars, even if there are no engine mods. I suspect that they might use that excuse of it being non-LR supplied kit to screw you for extra labour to remove the grille even though it is a simple screw in replacement. Might be worth contacting our man at Land Rover Customer Services, Pete and asking him to contact the dealership to exp[lain why they did nothing for the whole day when all that was required was to unscrew the grille. He will need your forum name and the car's VIN and the dealership name. Best to do it using the PM system so as not to show your car's VIN in open forum 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Interesting... Christchurch Land Rover had no issues selling it to me... Mentioned they get the odd Overfinch and Revere in now and again, I'm guessing as part ex.... I have the full 2 year LR approved warranty & Land Rover assist as part of the purchase... Plus half day LR driving experience, but must say haven't seen a dicky bird on that one yet. B7 Audi RS4 Saloon - Current

Also, thanks for the advice regarding contacting LR customer services.... I'll give them another chance to redeem themselves first Smile B7 Audi RS4 Saloon - Current

Just wanted to update and close the loop on this issue in case it is of any use to others down the line.

Issue required new headlight unit.

Gave up on local LR dealer and went back to Christchurch where I originally purchased.
They stepped up.. Picked up the car (over 180 mile round trip), left me 2015 Disco, fixed the issue (replacement headlamp unit), and delivered car back to me in just over 24 hours.

All of course at no charge.

LR customer service concerns well and truly put to bed. B7 Audi RS4 Saloon - Current
