Window tints-Police prosecution

Hi all, I got pulled over this morning by the police who have given me 3 points and a fine (awaiting a letter) for the tints on my front windows. Has anyone on here had a similar problem? i hadn't added the tints as they were on the car when I bought it. I've now taken them off but can't understand why such a sever penalty.

it's all down to the discrepancy of the officer at the time he could've just started to tear it back or get you to take it off then and there, I guess it depends how dark the tint was if it was really dark maybe the fine was justified but if it was hardly noticeable then you got a jobsworth officer giving you a fine and points.

Whatever level of tint it would've been aftermarket rather than a factory tint.

Not a lot you can do apart from live and learn buddy.

i'm not one to accept anything given to me, so find a way of questioning it. did he take a measurement? did he keep proof of this measurement? is he a knob? if the answer is no, no, yes, then you may be in luck Smile Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

Presumably the tint was tested with a light meter of some kind? If it was just a case of "I don't like it" then you might have some room to wriggle. If it was tested with a calibrated device then just pay up and move on. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Nope never had the problem but I never tint the fronts, anything over factory tint is either not worth it or illegal so what's the point Rolling Eyes

I feel sorry for you, My daughter bought a Ford Focus with Dark Tints alround. I found that visablity was very bad, especially when it was raining. That is why the law was made about tints forward to B pillar. You could appeal pleading you thought they were alright, being they were on the car when you bought it. If you can prove that itisme

Sorry to hear you got points,i got pulled by the police a couple of years ago in my escort cosworth and the police had the device to measure how dark the tint was on my front windows,(which turned out to be to dark) they basically gave me a 21 day ticket to get them removed and that was the end of it, so i think they have been a bit unfair with you

Thats just bad luck mate, Iv had a few cars back in the days with tints on and have been pulled over for being too dark. Police back then tested how much ultra violet light went through the tint and then made me take them off there and then and that was the end of it, never stopped me putting them back on though Rolling with laughter RRS SUPERCHARGED, 22 INCH ALLOYS, JAVA BLACK, FULLY COLOUR CODED

Did he check the light transmission with a lightmeter?

Although I have some sympathy that you bought the car with the fronts tinted, it's probably about time the Police started clamping down on illegal window tints. They serve no purpose other than hide the driver on their mobile phone (mine has bluetooth, 'cos it's a luxury car) or not wearing their seatbelt. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

Cheers all. Have no issues with taking them off and have already done so. The glue was a bitch! I just through a normal 7 day producer would have been suitable. I presume coffers are low at the moment. I've been told the points and a fine will be detailed in the letter. He did measure the light using a device but no idea if it had been calibrated or what the actual results were.

You deserve a £60 fine and 3 points I refuse to have a friend in my car,as he insists on not wearing a seatbelt. We all break the law at sometime. But to repeatedly put dark tints back on after being warned. Sounds like an irresponsible child itisme
