Air filters throwing out oil, Please help

Hi guys/girls, im after some advice.

I own a 2007 3.6 V8 Hse, ive been away on the welsh mountains since january due to being in the military so the car hasnt been driven for 8 weeks. I had no dramas before this time, so i took it into work, serviced it last weekend, no dramas. I took it about 15-20 miles to get an MOT on it on thursday again, no dramas. i took it off camp friday morning and around 300-350 meters from base theres traffic lights. I was slowing down for these as they turned green. I put my foot down amd heard a loud snap. At this point i lost nearly all power. I managed to limp the car around the corner away from the lights and got the mechanics from work to come and tow us back. They asked me to drive rather than tow, so i pulled out in the road were the car died completely.

I then was towed back and after a few feet of getting towed was able to start the engine again. There was no obvious leaks or anything hanging off at this time. We arrived back on base and reasiled that all the oil that used to be in the sump was now comming out from underneath rhe drivers headlight. First inspection seemed that id just damaged the oil cooler so wasent overly upset. However, i then took the arch liner out, headlight out all following the trail of oil and realised it was coming out of the airbox. I removed the air box and sure enough the two outlet pipes containing the MAF sensors were discharging oil onto my airfilter.

I removed one of the intercooler pipes and this was also full of thick clay-like oil. also the small elbow pipe next to this pipe was full of thick oil.

At this point i'm guessing: turbo oil seals, piston rings crank shaft vent pipe?

The coolant is clear which rules out head gasket.

Sorry for the long winded question, i just didnt want to leave any stone unturned, but can anyone help or has anyone had this problem before?

Sorry to hear about a fellow TDV8 owner having these problems.

By replying this will get bumped up the thread list and hopefully one of the resident proper experts like Disco Mikey will notice it and be able to offer some of his knowledge gained from much experience with this sort of thing.

It certainly sounds like one or both turbos has failed oil seals. With luck, the oil has not found its way into the cylinders and caused a hydraulic lock and consequent damage like bent con rods and the like; but it might be a good idea not to try starting it again until you have checked that out.

Sounds as if you have access to a workshop so might need to start looking up the instructions for lifting the body off to get access to the turbos Big Cry

Superb, thanks mate.

It was running for about 30 minutes so i could use the brakes whilst getting towed but that was all.

disco mikey is the man for that mate,I'm sure he will pick up on it soon,sounds a bit poorly though doesn't it,i had a crank go on a tdv6 and that was a bloody nightmare,i heard somewhere that land rover are helping out with these problems but i aint sure,be worth a phone call though,good luck with it Thumbs Up silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone

It sounds as though it has either had:

Too much oil in the engine, blowing the turbo seals
Or
Turbo failure
Or
Catastrophic engine failure...

Is there still oil in the engine? If it had dumped all its oil through the turbos, running it for 30 minutes will have done it no good at all...

Thanks for your reply mate, im locked out of work now but will check on monday for the oil level, i put the recommended 9.5 litres in, dipstick was spot on but havent checked since last week. Thanks again
