Oil level monitor - unavailable!

Hi there, I recently changed my battery in my MY10 RRS, and it's cured all of the spurious alerts that were popping up. However it's left me with a strange quirk - when I try to monitor the engine oil level (from the service menu which only comes on with ignition on, engine off) it tells me that it is "Unavailable".

Is this something that is easily curable? If so, how? It worked fine until I replaced the battery, and I've no reason to doubt the amount of oil in there.

I've Googled this and searched on here to no avail.

Many thanks. Current: Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

My bad! Just found this:

Page 180 of the Owners Manual

Checking the oil level
For an accurate oil level reading to be taken, the
following conditions must be met:
• The vehicle needs to be parked on level
ground.

• The oil level should be checked when the
engine is hot. It is therefore recommended
that a reading is taken after a journey.

• Let the vehicle stand for approximately 10
minutes after the engine is switched off, to
allow the oil to drain back into the sump.
Note: The system will not give a reading until
the oil level has stabilised.

The engine oil level is automatically monitored
and can be displayed in the message center.
Once the above conditions are met, check the
oil level as follows:
1. Press the STOP/START button - do not
start the engine.

2. Ensure the transmission is in Park (P).

3. To display the oil level, access the vehicle
information and settings menu.
See VEHICLE INFORMATION AND
SETTINGS MENU (page 36).
Select Service Menu and then select Oil
Level Display.

4. The oil level topping-up advice will be
shown in the message center. top-up as
instructed.
An indication of the oil level is displayed on the
gauge. Messages to the right of the gauge
advise you of any action you may need to take.
If the oil level is within the required operating
range, the message Level Ok will be displayed.

Do not add any additional oil to the engine.
If the oil level is below the required operating
range, a message advising you how much oil to
add will be displayed, e.g. Add 1.0 pint. Add
the recommended quantity of oil then recheck
the level.
If the message Overfilled is displayed, seek
qualified assistance immediately. Do not drive
the vehicle as this will cause serious damage to
the engine.

I was trying to measure it too soon after the engine running - after a 10ish minute rest it works. Panic over!

Sorry for the dumb question! Current: Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

That's a nifty feature - is this available on the older Sports too?

I'm not sure tbh. I suppose you could look under the bonnet for an oil dipstick - if it has one then you probably won't have the electronic monitoring? Current: Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey
