Chrome mirror covers removal advice

My 2005 RRS SC came with the mirrors looking like this (photos below). Too blingy for my taste and although I could be wrong it looks like they're aftermarket and thus possibly removable?

My question is, assuming they're not standard kit, how do I go about removing them without damaging the plastic finish of the mirror covers underneath? I did have a gentle pull on them just to see but they didn't budge at all.

They are usually held on by double sided tape, so if you use a heat gun and heat the chrome part it should hopefully pull away and you can clean up any residue with brake cleaner or similar Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 Supercharged Buckingham blue

Thanks, sounds simple enough (famous last words) - will borrow the wife's hairdryer at the weekend and give that a go!

Was toying with the idea of getting the mirros body colour-coded once the covers are off but leaving it standard would probably be better in terms of preserving the floating roof look....

Im in the process of removing my chrome mirror covers and have purchased a full cover already painted in my colour which you then stick over the whole of the back of the mirror. 2006 4.2 Supercharged Buckingham blue

Have you successfully removed one yet then or am I your guinea pig Laughing

They're not the ones from powerfuluk are they by any chance? They're the ones I was looking at... (in Rimini red) if they are I'd be very interested to hear your experience of fitting them and what you think of the quality etc before I decide to splash out Very Happy

There shouldn't be any probs removing them Big Cry
Yes I've ordered the mirror covers from Powerfuluk and are due for delivery to me tomorow, so once I've had a look at them I'll let you know. I've bought a few things from them and everything's been good so far so here's hoping 2006 4.2 Supercharged Buckingham blue

Yeah I've bought a few things off them and had no problems. Got the colour coded washer jet covers and whilst they were spot on quality wise, the paint wasn't a 100% match for mine. Close enough to not be that noticeable but enough to irk me a bit. Could just be because of the age of the paint on my car versus fresh paint on the covers?

Anyway look forward to seeing what yours look like fitted! Thumbs Up

Done the covers tonight, to remove the old covers, heat up with heat gun, hold the mirror and pull the cover off, make sure to clean the mirror before fitting the new covers which fitted spot on.

Here's before and after pics -

I think it looks much better than the chrome covers Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 Supercharged Buckingham blue

That's definitely a big improvement - and has helped me make my mind up for sure now. My chrome mirrors have to go and I'm getting some body coloured replacements Thumbs Up

Ordered mine now... will post pics once fitted although may be a while given current lousy weather. Don't have the luxury of a massive workshop to do my install Wink
