Stock sound system upgrade options?

Has anyone ever managed to upgrade the stock sound system in the UK?

Well the issue for me was that I needed a new car now and desperately wanted a RRS but did not want to pay nearly list price for a used car...I also could not wait for 5-6 months....I was offered mine as a cancelled order at list price (2015 new car) so decided I had to get it...unfortunately does not have the upgraded music system but hope to do an after market upgrade but with a car audio place that knows what they are doing Smile

Checkout AudioFile Incar at Bishops Stortford. I had my MY12 done there. After calling Audison, fourcar, sextons etc, they came out tops in terms of knowledge and professionalism. For a full digital conversion... Best bang for buck I could find.

kluklut, I'm glad you had a good experience at AudioFile. I dropped in (I work down the road) and asked them for ideas on what could be improved for £1k (difference in price between standard and Meridian low level - an attempt to post-rationalise a bad spec choice).

The guy tutted, told me he would get back to me and I never heard another thing. They got filed in the 'do not darken their doorstep ever again' file after that.

My suggestion? Attach one of these to the dash.

(I haven't done it but I have one at home and they are remarkable bits of kit).

I find the standard system perfectly adequate but then I only listen to radio. Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Twisted Evil

Thanks chaps - will do.

I have not heard the stock system as yet but so hopefully it would be OK for us..if not I shall pop in to Bishops Stortford.

Hopefully it would be better than the BOSE system in my Maserati GTS (was a £4000 option!!) which is a bloody joke for a premium sound system!

Update: Don't understand what all the fuss is about!? The stock system is not brilliant but it's not appalling as some have made out. Ok the volume when at top level is not fantastic but it does the job pretty well. I don't find it lacking bass at all. I have not compared it to a Meridian system but am glad I have not as I didn't have the option to get that (bought a cancelled order).

Overall I'm happy with it and my mrsrrsman is too Very Happy

Maybe it's my ears Rolling with laughter

As I said, I'm perfectly happy with the standard system. But then I do only listen to Crapital. Laughing Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Twisted Evil

Well done congratulations Thumbs Up I've done 300 Very Happy

Look forward to the pics. I'm surprised how well white keeps clean even though it has rained. The rear end is a little muddy but nothing too bad - think the Autoglym Lifeshine that the dealer gave me for free seems to be doing well...

The stock audio sounded terrible compared to the stock audio in my previous Jag XF, also described as 250 watts. Within two weeks of picking up the car I went to Sound Gurus in Finchley and they fitted an Audison amp and Hertz 3 way speakers. They did a fantastic job. The amp is under the passenger seat on top of the stock one and the speakers sit behind the stock grilles so it is impossible to tell it is after market. And it sounds awesome. Loud, pristine, clear as a bell. Easy now to fit a sub but it really doesn't need it. Highly recommended if you are fed up with the frankly abysmal stock system. Cost £2,000 though so definitely cheaper and easier to get the base Meridian system as an option.
