Quotes for repair work (rant)

It's not of ofton I rant about anything but trying to get quotes for the alternator replaced has realy got my back up,this is ranging from £80 to £300 or I'll have to have a look at the job first.

Now for me a good mechanic knows his job and should know his labour rates, yeah I own a range rover but I don't own a bank ffs.

Some are saying I can put the new battery on and drive it to the garage and others are saying its needs recovery to get it there.

No wonder there is so much mistrust in the industry.

Rant over

If you have a duff alternator, do not risk your new battery on it buy driving it there. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

2.7 is around two hours and V8 four with some coolant. So at my rates that's £75 plus the alternator. Easy ...... Next 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Back in the day when I used to work on highly tuned cars I was pretty good at setting up multi-carb set-ups, fuel injection and the 4-barrel stuff (Holleys) fitted to the American V8 muscle cars.

Now I used to charge quite a bit, if you thought about it as an hourly rate. But I reckoned if you gone elsewhere my competition you probable have taken a helluva lot longer and, even then, not got the motor running right.

The last thing I'm saying that LR dealers are worth the £130+ per hour they charge but, someone skilled can be worth what the market will bear!!

This is why people like Disco-Mickey, Bodsy et al can probably make a good living and have happy customers and good luck to them.
