I love the Meguiars range of products for most things. They pretty much do what they say on the tin. I've probably got most of the range covering everything from shampoo to leather conditioner. I used to use Autoglym range beforehand but don't really rate most of their stuff these days.

I'm just about to experiment with snow foam - never used this method before but read a lot about it on here. Hoping I can just stick some Gold Class shampoo in the foam lance but may have to explore other options as Meguires don't seem to make a dedicated snow foam product...

I'm thinking about getting some of that snow foam this place. Looks good stuff.. There's a link to the website here..

If you are then everything I've read thus far has suggested that washing up liquid is a big no-no... the same property that makes it great for greasy dishes is the one that makes it bad for washing your car as its supposed to strip the waxes and oils from your paintwork...

Washing-up liquid takes all the protection off your paint work so i never use that..

When you polish your car you don't do it to look nice it's for protection... .

I wasn't seriously suggesting it but, yes, I do use washing-up liquid but I only clean the car once in a blue moon anyway.

Exactly. As long as it's thoroughly cleared off the car, it, IMO, makes for a perfectly good cleaner. The car can be waxed again afterwards. Elbow grease and attention to detail (including thorough rinsing afterwards) are the most important things.

Now, leaving it on the car would be a big no-no.

To be specific, I did say I use it to clean it, not polish it. Whatever polish and wax you choose to use will welcome as clean a car as possible so stripping everything off (short of the paint), in my view, is a good basis to start on.

I try to wash my car every week so I wouldn't want to strip the wax off and have to re-do it each time

In fact I try to top-up the wax with either a spray-wax or at least a detailing spray whilst drying off as I like to keep the water beading off all year round.

You're probably right about washing up liquid being good for when you want to start from scratch with a clean slate though

Wash and clean with auto glym shampoo then auto glym resin. Then do do juice purple haze for that wet look!

Well, mine barely gets washed once every couple of months.

At this time of year, mine sees too much mud and it'll be filthy in a few days time so any attempt to keep it clean would not be salient.  Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I would like to here off someone who as used that snow foam to see how good it is before spending on a Lance and the liquid  .

Have a search in the car wash section, loads of people have mentioned it there. It's my understanding that it's a sort of pre-wash so you still need to get the buckets and wash mitts out, but it gets rid of the bulk of the crud safely that might otherwise scratch your paintwork.

Snow foam is brilliant, make sure you get a decent one, autobrite or something similar, they also sell the lance.
Jet wash the car first to get all the big stuff off, then snow foam, ( I always fill the bottle about a quarter, then top up with hot water ), you might have to play around with the settings on the lance to get the foam thick enough.
Once you've foamed the car, go in and have a cuppa, this gives the foam time to soak into all the on the car, jet was again, then start your normal wash.
I'm sure there's plenty of info on here about how to wash the car properly, 2 bucket method, grit guards etc etc.
