Does someone like warranty direct cover the majors and minors or do you mean just general W&T parts?

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HST Java Black

Warranty direct seems best warranty. Other than that I was same position as you. I used to have Z4 now purchased a 56 plate RRS 2.7 V6. Cracking motor, expensive to run but then again if it wasn't expensive to run then every man and his dog would have one in the street!

2.7 is big enough for me. I didn't want the V8 with twin turbos because of the blown turbo horror stories. I never planned on needing to go massively fast on the roads in a 3 tonne car. V6 ticked the boxes, cheapest to run.

I think after 2005 they had a couple more things as standard and gave LR 12 months to rectify a couple of things. Sure tax more expensive but by paying tax monthly its not a massive bill.

Mines FSH, got 87,000 on at present and is a lovely motor to drive and a head turner with the HST kit on. Had full service history with all belts changed, lower arms etc. Theres an awful lot of guys with RRS's on here with well over 100k on the 2.7 some with over 170 on and even 200 I believe.

My advise is go for a HSE spec. Forget the S and SE. HSE has the sat nav, heated seats front and back etc etc. Then make sure you set cash aside for any repairs or wear and tear stuff like tyres, breaks, suspension components. These are the general things that will go. Servicing is more expensive. Oil, filters etc is a £250ish, all belts if it hasn't been done is £600+, gearbox service recomended by 75k is £250ish at garage.

You should get a really good example 2006/2007 at £16,000ish with all the above done. Remember though in 2007 they introduced dynamic response or something to do with anti roll bars (someone will clarify) and if that go's wrong which I read it often does, then its £££'s which is why I stuck with the year before.

You might get some over 100k for less than 15k but make sure you check all above and check everything works. I'm not Fat. RRS TDV6 HST.

They're are quite a few things that changed through the years.

For 06MY, an enhancement programme took place which corrected various bugs. In either 06 or 07MY (can't remember which) the loom was re-thought and made more robust.
07MY saw the introduction of the EU4 engine - the main consequence of this is that EGRs now need emulators and a software patch to be blanked (FWIW, earlier models didn't even have an Engine Management light. Shocked ). A batch of dodgy oil pump casings were produced from very late 06MY through to part way through 08MY. The oil pump must be changed when the cam belts are done on these vehicles - best to be done on any MY though. The EU4 engine is a dividing point for many engine related parts.
09MY there seems to be an improvement in reliability with some of the late ones getting some parts from the coming 3.0 SDV6 engine and the much better AMK suspension compressor.

Naturally, software updates were also created throughout the years for various ECUs.

Massive thanks for the decent reply! Think I'm going to look late 55/early 06 and look to get warranty as extra safety, will check for all the majors and FSH on a 100k mile etc, some are going for about 12-13k so will leave money after the Z4 goes, appreciate the help!

2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Bali Blue

It appears a few of us have gone from Z4 to RRS...If you're anything like me I suspect you already had your mind made up about owning a RRS and not much is going to change that.

I personally don't have a warranty at the moment and not sure I will bother (I have a MY10 3.0 which seems to fair a little better than the older cars). I'm fortunate to get very good garage rates if it does go wrong and I can stick the warranty money in the bank for when it does. Other than an unfortunate vandal causing damage nothing has gone wrong yet (touch wood).

Running costs, I've found the insurance to be similar to the zed (also 3.0), tax is more at £480 but I used to own two cars so not an issue. MPG is worse than expected, I hoped to get near the urban figure but in reality is around 20mpg. The zed performed better - however fuel is cheaper now so not making much difference to the wallet

Ownership wise, the RRS is fantastic. I love looking at, driving it and receiving positive comments about it. I miss the Zed's performance at times and dropping the roof on a lovely clear day but in the end I decided to own one car than two.

If you have any questions, just ask - in my experience the forum is full of friendly, helpful people Smile 2010 RRS 3.0 TDV6 - Bali Blue / Ivory Leather / Extended Leather / TV / Rear Entertainment / Privacy Glass / Timed Climate
