Locking car

Hi all, second post here.

Somewhere I read about the best sequence to leave the car.

I am pretty sure it was advised that when I come to a final stop, put car into access mode, then park and then hand brake.

Is that correct? Or just come to a stop and in park and then handbrake!

Thanks all.

I follow this sequence after seeing advice on here:
1. Put in access mode shortly before stopping so it completes the lowering operation in time and doesn't do it with gearbox in Park or with brakes on.
2. Select Neutral, apply parking brake and lift foot off brake. The car might move a bit but any strain will now be on the brake shoes/discs rather than the gearbox.
3. Select Park and switch engine off.
4. Lock using the button on the door handle rather than the button on the remote. This means no one can catch or jam the signal which can be the first step towards stealing the car. Same thing with unlocking, just approach the handle with key on you and it will unlock. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Not officially I guess. Just a few things people have thought about and considered good practice out of sympathy for the car. There is nothing to it once you get into the habit btw. Most people do most of these things anyway, just that the "right" sequence could have long term benefits (probably very long term). Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I vaguely remember seeing on TV when I was a lad that - once at a complete standstill - it's common practice to exit the vehicle via the front window, presumably to save wear on door mechanisms. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Everyone has their priorities. I like to keep my car clean but don't get why some people are so anal about the "perfect shine" and get so excited when their paintwork "reflects like a mirror" etc. Mechanical sympathy is more important to me. Can I ask, as I'm sure a few are wondering, what difference does this make in the long term to the car?

I think I already tried to explain my point of view but here it is again. I am no expert but this is what I have noticed and also read on the forum:

1. Lowering the suspension when in park or with brakes pressed makes a creaking noise. Obviously something isn't happy. Hence lowering while still moving or in neutral without brakes should avoid that.
2. Applying the parking brake when gearbox in neutral as opposed to park means when you lift your foot of the brake and the car moves a bit before coming to rest again (especially if you park on a slope like I do), the brake shoes and discs take the strain (which is what they are for) rather the the gearbox. This could increase gear wear. Obviously if the systems are intelligent and the car automatically does the right thing then this isn't a problem but I don't know so just try to be safe.
3. Locking the car using the door handle buttons rather than the remote could potentially prevent thieves catching the signal. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I'm with fkarim on this. Some of these things might not be 100% necessary but should all help to keep pressure off the gearbox and drivetrain. They're also easy.
