United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 S Java Black
Smoke from front of engive.

New to the RRS. Have a 57 TDV6 2.7 litre.
Got a lot of (whitw) smoke coming out of a downpipe from the front of the engine (left hand side).
What is the downpipe, and more important, what is the smoke?
Any help - thanks
Clarlie

Don't worry...!

I had the same panic with my Disco 3 when it first did it.

It's the fuel burning heater (FBH). When it's cold outside, I think less than 5 degrees, the FBH starts automatically to warm the engine and the interior of the vehicle. If you watch the temperature gauge you will see it rise quicker than it normally would on a journey. The FBH exhaust vents in the front nearside wheel arch making it look like your engine is on fire.

At least you know it works!

Wow, didn't even know the RRS had such a thing! When I went back to check the manual - I found the 42 words about it.
Having read up about it on the inteernet it looks as if you are both spot-on. Had the RRS for 3 months, first time I have't jumped straight in and driven several miles when the weather has been a bit cold. Really worried me.
Thank you both very much for your quick replies - now very much relieved.

Fantastic bit of kit. On the 2011 models they've given it a remote so that you can worm the interior before getting in the car. Remote driver next!! Thumbs Up

i take it that it is the bit of kit that looks like a small exhaust pipe under the bonnet (thought it was something to do with aircon) - mine is always garaged at night so i presume thats why i havent experienced the engine fire! i thought that was an optional extra?
cheers

thats the fellow!!, as the pipe coming from the silencer looked like it was running down to the ground i assumed it was the aircon pipe, and the silencer was some sort of cooling thingy!
thanks for enlightening me Thumbs Up

All of the diesels have it uk spec. Hot climates don't have them.

On your 2010 model, you can also enable the park heater timed and with a remote control. Let me know if your interested. It really helps on cold days. Warms the engine and usually gets the car nice and defrosted for when you come out. Thumbs Up
Yours could be locked out, or just running ok so not smoking. You will usually smell it and hear it, it's like a small turbo jet engine. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible
