England 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Siberian Silver
Rovertune in Reading

Hi- I know a few people on here use them so after opinion please-
I've used then 3 or 4 times and they have looked after my sport very very well, and I like the staff and I've always felt like I was getting value for money.
However, when I asked for a quote on a suspected alternator failure they quoted £490 for the alternator and £75 to fit it. I've searched the internet and I'm struggling to find an alternator for more than £220.
Is that a normal parts mark up? Seems excessive to me and it's put me off them- but if it's normal practice then maybe I'm wrong.
Thoughts?

Doesn't seem right to me. I'm sure they've just made an error, perhaps looking at the wrong one? Or perhaps they didn't ring around all their suppliers?

My local indie rings all 3 of his suppliers to get parts at the cheapest cost and then doesn't charge a penny on top. Shows you the reciepts and everything. I'm not Fat. RRS TDV6 HST.

Sounds like a mistake. Have used Rovertune for over three years too.

They did my alternator a few years back. The alternator and fitting was around £450ish IIRC.

Give Rob a call and dig into it. Rovertune only use genuine LR parts so it might be worth ringing the site sponsors - eg Dan at Duckworth parts, to see what they are charging ( no pun honest Very Happy ). Dan always does outstanding deals for original LR parts.

Worth checking whether part in the quote is new or refurb/exchange.

Good luck Thumbs Up

I use Rovertune but for some items I have found it worth asking Lancaster. My alternator change with them was under £300 all in. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

All done now- used another garage who only charged £290 for the alternator. Annoyingly it had fried the battery as well.

Another option for you given your location is Hofmanns in Henley. Hourly rate creeping up, but worth calling them if you're ever in a similar situation.

Oh and there is normally something very tasty in their showroom Thud 2016 VW Golf GTD DSG
