Range Rover 'Tax'

Not necessarily a totally serious thread and also would apply to any nice motor that you might have sitting on your drive! However, does anyone else wonder if they get a higher quote when getting trades people round when they see what car you own/drive? We got our garden landscaped last year and almost every guy who came round to quote commented on the car and asked a few questions about it.

We're now looking at getting our driveway sorted and I'm tempted to put the car on the road whenever we have someone else coming round to quote just in case they decide that I can afford a little extra!! Smile

My wife has always said this is the case. I also used to know a plumber who said if the client for a quote looked like they are having a good living,he would charge more. I have noticed that if i dont dress smart to go to buy another car. the dealer leaves me looking at the car and does not approach me. I have to approach them, and even then they think i cant afford a car of the class i am looking at. Even though i have paid cash for my cars up to 35K their loss i go elseware itisme

I have always wondered that too and considered moving my car from the driveway when I am expecting tradesmen for quotes. But then I think they can always see what's on neighbouring driveways and must know that generally most cars are of relatively insignificant value compared to the houses they are parked outside. If you are getting a decent amount of work done, you are obviously not renting the place but own it. So I think they have more than enough info to quote excessively (and many do!) with or without seeing the RRS. That's they way I think about it - could be a laziness driven incorrect theory Laughing Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

We've got 2 D3's, most of the uninitiated think they are RR's, compounded by SWMBO's family thinking we are multi-millionaires due to what we drive (really, a 6 yr old car and an 8yr old car??) so when ever we have a quote I always move one of them onto the road..... maybe I should shift both of them next time Shocked Over for a visit from disco3.co.uk

Since joining, I've noticed some of the servicing/maintenance/repair quotes you get over here seem higher than for the equivalent D3s. Partly, this may be because more of you stick with main dealers, but still, some of the quotes I've heard over here are astronomical. Not that the D3 quotes aren't sometimes extortionate too, just seemingly not as much as you guys.

It'd be interesting to get quotes for something on a 2.7 D3 then on a 2.7 RRS and see if they differ. Whistle Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

definitely the case. A draughtsman came round my house to measure up for the drawings for our extension. Price had already been agreed prior to visit. first thing he said was "lovely motor, must be worth a few quid. i would move it when you get the people round for estimates". he may of been thinking he could of added a bit if he hadn't quoted me before hand.

Interesting that others also feel that it might affect the quotes they get! We had a guy round today to give us a quote for a new driveway. He turned up in a Vogue! We got chatting and he pointed out my car which I'd parked across the road. I shrugged and said "Maybe one day" and he laughed.

Hopefully that'll drop my quote by 5%!! Smile

Yep same here' I'm not a rich man buy any stretch of the imagination. But i drive a RRS and where a Rolex and live in a nice home. The RRS is only an 06 but has a private number plate on it and the Rolex was a wedding present from my wife.
People do and rightly so think we are loaded at a glance and if they know nothing about us!
Truth be told we just work hard and have a few nice things. But when a tradesman comes round or you go to a garage for a quote on something you can see the ££££ light up in there eyes!!
I guess we only have our self to blame. But yes all they want to do is rip us off. But I wonder how many of us would do the same thing if we was in the same game as them?

Disagree. Why is the customer to be blamed if some dishonest Censored tries to charge based on the client's perceived financial status rather than the nature/amount of work? Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

just to put another spin on it, i had to get an insurance quote for a new set of blinds, the guy came round from a well known tv advertised firm, and gave me a quote, it was quite high, but I just shrugged my shoulders and told him the Insurance company were paying anyway, he then took the estimate from me and re wrote it, for quite a bit less and told me the Insurance company wouldnt have paid out on the orginal price he had quoted me, I looked at him and then the penny dropped with him as to what he had just said and done. 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))
