United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Congratulations - glad to hear you took the plunge.

Like you I came from a Jeep 4.7 litre V8 Grand Cherokee and appreciate the extra poke, better ride and handling and higher level of sophistication.

Had mine for a little over 2.5 years and decided not to pay for a warranty on the grounds that I would rather 'self-insure' (i.e. keep the money in my investments/bank accounts) but that only works if you have enough cash on tap to deal with the worst happening. So far I could have easily spent about £3k on warranty premiums which would effectively have been wasted cash. On the other hand I have probably spent a fair amount on having things done which a warranty wouldn't have covered anyway. Its a hard choice.

It helps if you have another vehicle to use so that if the RRS has a problem you are aren't rushed in to having it fixed by the first garage you can get it to (I think the marketing men call that a distress purchase).

You said you are handy with a spanner so that will save you a lot of money on the routine servicing. Thumbs Up 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Same car as mine, enjoy, the supercharged is awesome , here's mine after colour coding

Mines going in to the garage to get the eas pump replaced £500 for the job and its the only fault I've had in a year that's worth worrying about.

I have had LR's warranty for the last 3.5 years and each year it's paid out more than it cost. Luck of the draw... Whistle 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Cheers for the warm welcome guys Very Happy

I've taken out the full AA Breakdown & Repair Insurance for now... got a few months to decide what to do next. Think I need time to learn to trust the new girl. After reading all the horror stories on here I keep expecting a barrage of warnings to appear every time I start her up! Rolling Eyes

@DesignBoy - did your warranty company pay up for the repairs in the end?

@Monty19 - lovely looking car... colour coding makes quite a difference! I'm going to stick with the two-tone black/red for now but definitely something to consider in the future Thumbs Up
