Build Duration

Does anybody know how many working days it actually takes to build a L494?

Thanks

Scotland 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Bali Blue

According to the Land Rover book a car comes off the production line every 82 seconds.
As for how long it takes to 'build' it seems to depend on what you mean by build. The process is very fragmented.
If you mean to come down the production line and be 'assembled' then we (during a visit in 2012) were quoted 3 days for the Evoke. however I'm not sure where the beginning and end is. EG the body shell starts the 'line' built but without doors and screens. They come assembled.
Hope this helps. Please don't take it as factual.
Hugh

I was quoted 3-4 weeks for the entire process including quality control etc.

Thanks Guys,

My dealer told me that on the Vista System my car is showing as "Build Start" on 5 December and "Delivery to Dealer" on 19 December. I also thought that the process was 3 to 4 and was trying to ascertain how realistic it was to get my car before Christmas. As I suspected......probably not.

It's a pretty spectacular process and I speak as someone whose idea of a good holiday is to visit a press shop.

When I was at Halewood, we were looking at coils of steel plate. As our guide said, these will be pressed this morning, built into a body shell this afternoon, painted overnight, final assembly tomorrow and out the door by tomorrow evening.

If you go to Solihull and you arrive first thing, you find yesterday's production clogging up all the available space and a car transporter has to leave at least every 10 minutes to clear them out. Drive down the M40 or A34 and you see transporter after transporter taking them down to Southampton. The value creation at Solihull is just incredible.

So, I think the total build time for an RRS from aluminium pressing to completed car is 2 - 3 days. Whether that means you will get your car before Christmas, I do not know but I wish you luck!! Mark

Dealer told me last weekend that it would take 4 months for delivery if I put an order in now.
He also said that 4 months was good - they'd actually sped things up.

Nope. I didn't say that. I actually ordered a L494 on 1st March 2013. When the car was launched in mid April that year, the dealer who I ordered it with wouldn't confirm that LR would be launching the model in a V8 Diesel (which their press release confirmed and that was what I wanted at the time), I cancelled my order. After having driven a Supercharged, I placed an order with another dealer around the end of 2013 but was told that I would have to wait up to 12 months. When I realised that my car would arrive around the September / October last year, I asked if I could put it back just a little to get a 2015 MY and that's what I took delivery of on 24 December Smile
