Rear Anti-roll Bar Question (ARC)

The rear ARC anti-roll bar on my TDV8 09 is "sweating", so I'm guessing it will eventually fail and need to be replaced. I want to do the rear anti-roll bar bushes on the car as it's nocking, so it would seem sensible to do it all at once when I'm ready to go ahead.....

So, my questions are as follows:

1) is it possible to service or overhaul a rear anti-roll ARC bar? (i.e. seal kit etc)?

2) Will an ARC bar from a TDV6 car fit my TDV8?

3) Can you get "poly bushes" or anything better/more durable than OEM bushes?

As always...thanks in advance for your thoughts and wisdom!

Hi, picked up the following bit of information from my independent recently that the manufacturer of the ARC bars is in Luton but when approached about supply of service parts or a remanufacturing process - they say their agreement with JLR won't allow it. So answer to question 1) is a no.

can't answer 2) but one of our hands on experts will be along soon to advise Bow down

3) polybushes if available will probably spoil the ride and the later standard bushes seem to be a bit more durable than the earlier ones.

Considering the high cost of replacement ARC bars at around £1k and that slight sweating around the seals is said to be normal perhaps it might be best to just keep an eye on the condition and fluid levels until and unless you are sure there is a leak? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

1) Not to my knowledge. Will require a new bar...

2) I believe they are the same, but will have to double check part numbers

3) Poly bushes are available for the rear ARC bar, but they are only standard height, and will soon knock if the bar is remotely worn. Best bet is to fit new genuine LR bushes

Thumbs Up

2) TDV8 bar is a separate part number from all others. TDV6/4.2 SC/4.4 NA all share the same bar...

Hope your sitting down when they give you the price Big Cry

well......why am I not surprised at that....!!!

Thanks for the info guys.....not a lot of good news in there though Big Cry

Interesting, as I didn't know that the bars were likely to "sweat" and that it wasn't really an issue? Do you think I could get away with it for a while yet? My plan was to go for a second hand unit from a low mileage car as long as I could see it was "dry". Maybe I should just hold off until it really does go. I guess it could be a while away yet?

I really wanted to get rid of the knocking from the bushes at the back though.....I believe it's a big job.....which is why I was going to tackle the bar at the same time.

So, from what you guys are saying the genuine, latest issue LR bushes are the best bet then? Does anyone have a part number for these, or if I just order them will I get the latest ones anyway? 09 TDV8 RRS

RVU000021 is the latest number I have for the rear bush

If it's only a sweat, then its not a huge deal. When it starts dripping off the bar, then its time to do something about it.

I appreciate it is a lot of money, but you are taking a chance with a 2nd hand bar. Which will have most likely been steam cleaned to remove any traces of sweats/leaks.

Rear ARC bushes are fairly easy to do. Not a lot of room to work, and a bit fiddly, but much easier to do than the fronts...
