I believe the engine in the RRS 2 in TDV6 guise is essentially the same as in the original RRS (I previously had a MY10 facelift model).

When I test drove a Fuji White RRS 2 last year (TDV6) I was blown away by the smoothness and much improved performance and handling of it... and ended up buying it then and there!

I'm not sure if the reason is gearing or weight loss etc. - do people have an opinion of a discernible or perceived improvement between the L494 TDV6 and SDV6?

Again, I believe the same engine but differently tuned (and that the same performance can be reached by a remap)?

I've never bothered test driving the higher models in case it dulls my love of my current car... but I noticed a similar car to mine in SDV6 guide on the market which has peeked my interest.

I know if i get in it I'll probably end up chopping in the current so thought I'd seek knowledgable insight without risking my wallet!

For MY 2014 & 2015.0 the TDV6 and SDV6 is mechanically the same engine with a double (sequential) turbo with different ECU programming. From MY2015.5 (starting production about now) the TDV6 only has a single turbo, but with a more aggressive & efficient ECU programming so the power and torque remains the same with less fuel consumption. The SDV6 (still double turbo) has also gotten a new ECU tuning which has increased the power and torque.

For about £900 (+VAT?) you can have DMS or JE Engineering upgrade your TDV6 to new SDV6 standard. I plan to do so with mine after the first service or after the 3 year engine warranty has expired. Have not yet decided. Was leaning towards the first, but after driving about 1200 km and not found the TDV6 lacking in the engine compartment, I might wait until the warranty expires.

I'm very impressed with my SDV6 Dynamic unow that it's done 15000k. Goes really well now. Out of interest I drove an SDV8 before Xmas and thougt mine went just as well if not better. Maybe because the demo car had only 1400Ks on it. Also disappointed with lack of V8 grumble. My old RRS TDV8 had a great note.

Hi Jools,

We did a road trip to Sydney in our MY10 Easter last year... the thing simply ate the kms up and was effortless. Was great. The NSW coast back to Mel was beautiful, especially around Tilba. Would highly recommend it.

These cars are so capable, 4 up with luggage we had a few days around Halls Gap in August in the new one (pic in my gallery). Even more impressive... very responsive on those back country roads with great handling. And that's without Dynamic.
