Thanks Mikey for the response
I have seen your recommended on all the disco websites and on this site as well. Its a shame you are so far away from me.
What do you think is an average price for a replacement engine and do they go by mileage and year etc?
I have been reading so many bad reviews on what seem like good websites but i guess anyone can have a brilliant website but not be a genuine company who care about their products.
Thanks in advance for your help
Kind regards
kev

Go with the eurojag ones as Mikey said.

How did it fail.....? Is it by any chance the timing belt tensioner that has come away from the oil pump casing? Bodsys Brake Bible

I paid £2500 for a 49k engine. They did have cheaper ones available, but with a higher mileage.

I replaced my own engine in 23 hours, though this included a few extras, such as suspension arms, brake pipes, silicone hoses, gearbox oil.and filter etc. And that was flat out over 2 days wirh no breaks, as I only had the ramp for those 2 days

not sure yet as my mechanic will come over tomorrow to strip it down.I had a new belt and tension fitted only 600 miles ago but there was a low tone noise coming from engine and Lookers land rover suspected timing chain or valves but they were not 100%.
It would of cost me at least £1300 min for them to fault find and then that could of risen as they were not going to gaurentee it would end there.Plus that was only to strip to middle engine if more extensive striping the meter was running as they say.
So i could of had a bill of over £2K and then still not fixed the problem so i thought would take my chances as i knew rough price for recon or second hand engine would be around £2500.
Once i know what the reason for failure was ill post the result.
The car has only done 68000 miles from new and its an 08 with full history and only 2 owners.

If it is the oil pump, it will take around 45 mins to strip and check. Failing that, I have seen a few 08s with broken con rods and crankshafts

If this is the case, it would be worth getting in touch with the LR rep on the forum before stripping the car too far. Bottom end issues are not unknown inside of LR, and they released an "improved customer handling experience" for these known issues.

Edit: does the car still run at all, or is the bottom end seized?

Title Crankshaft/Crankshaft Bearing Concerns - TDv6 Diesel Engine
Category Engine
Last modified 06-May-2014 00:00:00
Symptom 499000 Basic Engine

Content
Issue:
Crankshaft/crankshaft bearing failure - TDv6 Diesel Engine.
Cause:
Low incidence of crankshaft failure are being encountered, caused mainly by incorrect location of the main bearing shells during assembly, or through rotation of the shells during normal use. A new procedure has been implemented to ensure:
- more rapid resolution of customer concerns, and
- greater visibility of failure modes in order to improve repair process and parts delivery.

Action:
For any suspected crankshaft/bearing failure, please contact your local Dealer Technical Supportor FRED team for details of the enhanced customer handling procedure.
The list below summarises typical symptoms of crankshaft/bearing failure, but please contact your DTS/FRED team if in any doubt as they will be pleased to offer assistance:
· Crankshaft is seized, engine cannot be turned either via starter motor or crankshaft pulley bolt.
· Oil sump or engine cylinder block is holed, with oil leakage and/or metallic debris found on engine under-tray.
· Engine makes a loud ‘rumbling/knocking’ sound when running which worsens as the engine is placed under load. The engine oil pressure warning light may flash or be continuously illuminated, especially at low engine speeds.

Some members of the D3 forum have had engines replaced fully FOC. If you don't ask... Whistle

I'm wondering why LR dealers don't sell engine parts (piston rings etc) to fix the engine.
Rather than spending £200 for few parts I have to get 2nd hand one (3.6 tdv8) :/

If you have full service history, then this type of issues should be pushed back to LR to resolve. Especially at the mileage you have. Did LR do the timing belt?

I had the 'other' issue with the 07/08 engines and even on 101,000 part LR, Part Indi service and even though the car was 5 years old, they replaced the engine FOC.

It's all about the facts presented and the words/determination you have. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi There
It was an Indi LR garage that replaced the belt at my request. They said the low tone noise coming from engine In their opinion was crank shaft but they was not sure. They did say that there had been major issues with 2.7 cranks and added you cannot buy replacements.
I took my chances and now have a major failure.
I have had advice from MMP and my fitter will take timing belt off and see if the problem is there if not and it is crank then i will try to contact LR but i do not know to address letters to.
If you have any contact names and address that would be great.
Thanks for your input
Many thanks
Kevan
