TDV8 Fuel spill pipes "Popping off"... Help!!!

Hi Guys,

Got an odd one for you here... My fuel return pipes keep popping off (but so far, only on the O/S bank of injectors)!!!

Thing is, it doesn't happen straight away. I can do a couple of hours of driving, leave the car overnight but the next day, the pipe has slipped past the retaining clip and popped out of the injector housing!!!

Has anyone seen this before???

The added complication is that I'm off to the Alps on Boxing day!!! Confused

M

Yeah I've sort of had this when I replaced a spill rail o ring.

When I'd replaced it and refitted the pipe with the clip, gave it a tug and all was ok. I ran the engine then blipped the throttle and it flew off.

So I had some new clips but I pinched them together more which made it harder to get on but made a tighter grip on the pipe.

Cheers Daz,

I'll consider that but the odd thing is it does not happen when driving after refitting... It's only once the car has been left overnight (i.e. to cool down).

FWIW - After the last re-fitting of the spill pipe, I drove for 3hrs without a problem!! Confused

...well, that's what it looks like anyway!!

Sometimes it is caused by the return valve on the top of the fuel tank causing an over pressure on the return lines.

Is there a single line & valve to cover both sides or are there 2x valves/lines??

i.e. It's only happening on the O/S bank. The N/S bank has never had a problem. If there was a common pipe for both, I'd expect to see something happening on both sides.

Just one set of lines to and from the tank. Once a side pops off it it tends to do it again and again. If everything looks secure and still pops off then the valve or return line is suspect.

Ta muchly...

The retaining clips were replaced and so far everything has remained in place. I just hope that remains so for my run down to The Alps in the morning!!!

I also feel it appropriate to 'big up' the guys at Egdon 4x4 in Pershore. Matt dropped everything to help me out, with 30mins notice and 2x days before Christmas... Thumbs Up
