Lined Oak Interior Trim Pack - LR003873

Can anyone help with a query regarding the Lined Oak Interior Trim Pack (part number LR003873), these are covers for the four air vents in the dash, I ordered for my RRS HST MY2008 but have had problems in the relatively simple task of fitting them.

The covers for the two outside air vents fit perfectly, however, the two inner covers do not fit properly and after a bit of head scratching it would appear that the kit deliverd is for a left hand drive vehicle.

The reason I say this is because the instrument console butts up against the the right hand side of the right hand middle air vent slightly obscuring part of the right hand side of the vent. For a left hand drive vehicle it is the opposite way around in that the instrument console butts up against the left hand side of the left hand middle air vent.

What this means is that the cover that fits on the air vent next to the instrument console has a different profile on the edge that is flush to the console and the covers are not reversible.

I have spoken to the supplier of the part (Rimmer Bros) the part is an original LR part in a LR box with fitting instruction, I have also spoken the Land Rover customer support centre , 2 dealerships and two other independent Land Rover parts suppliers but none of them are aware there is a difference.

My questions are:
1. Has anyone come across this problem before.
2. Given there appears to be only one part number is there a difference between the trim pack for left hand/right hand drive models.
3. If not, one assume that the trim pack either needs to be butchered to fit this could probably be done quite well for the right hand cover for the middle vent, however, the left hand side of the left hand middle vent will have a noticeable amount of the original air vent (silver) showing whereas it should be completely covered.

My apologies for the long winded post but if anyone can help I would be grateful, otherwise please be aware of the potential problem if you are thinking of doing something similar.

A quick update to my post, I have now spoken to 3 dealerships and one of them has confirmed with LR Accessories that there is not Left/Right Hand drive derivatives of the trim pack so if you have a right hand drive RRS my recommendation is don't go for either LR003872 or LR003873 trim kits, RRP is £466.47 the saving grace is that I didn't pay anywhere near that price.

Please see the pictures below

Dave,

I struggle to believe that there are not left and right hand drive variants of the kit when there is such a difference in the shape of the covers.
Perhaps look round dealers to find an RRS with this already fitted to see if they also have the issue.
I looked at a TDV8 which had the oak interior and pretty sure there wasn't anything as obvious as the dark silver of the original vent showing.

This had been fitted by the previous owner when I bought my RRS and it was the first 'mod' I did as the fit was so poor. Large areas of shiny grey plastic were visible and it just looked too after market and cheap to me. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy
Ex 2006 RRS SC - garbage
Ex 2016 135i M Sport - dream car
Ex 2003 RS6 Avant - piece of cr*p
Ex 2014 320d X Drive, M Sport Touring - ok I guess
Ex 2007 RRS TDV8 - bloody loved it
EX 2007 FL2 XS - not so bad

I purchased one of these trim sets in the Rimmer 2014 Christmas sale. It was incorrect in exactly the way you describe. I spoke to their parts Dept and returned the faulty items with a detailed explanation of the problem because Rimmer "wanted to inspect the rest of their stock to ensure this to is not faulty". To my surprise I received another set within two days and these to were faulty.

I don't believe that Rimmer made any attempt to check their stock and as they have had over a year to identify and correct this problem I don't believe they have any intention off checking their stock. I will not be using Rimmer again.

I'm sorry to hear that you met with the same problem, I eventually went to these guys
http://www.silvercrest-woodtrim.co.uk/index.html

They did a fantastic veneer job on the air vents plus a couple of other bits, price for the vents was half that of the RRP of the Land Rover parts and look much better. The only down-side is that you do have remove the parts yourself and they do need them for about four weeks.

Had this on my first rrs.
The parts are for a lhd but also fit (poorly) on the rhd version.
I ended up using 2 kits to get the centre vent looking tidy (they were cheap for this reason I think)
Wouldn't bother tbh

I ended up painting the air vents and the silver panels on each side of the radio. I'm really pleased with the finish and I think it makes the dashboard looka little less dated. Very Happy
