Advice for prospective RRS purchaser - £28k budget

Hi All,

I'm brand new to the forum but hoping to get some genuine advice/thoughts from some resident RRS experts. Its been great reading through some of the posts on here and seeing some pictures of your cars.

With about £27/28k burning a hole in my pocket, I'm going to buy my first RRS in the new year. I've been looking around at the type of car I can afford (age/mileage/spec etc) and I'm 99% sure I will buy from the used approved main dealer network. (From my research so far, I'd like to think I could afford a 2009/2010 with around 40k on the clock in a good spec).

What advice could you give me on looking for an RRS? (any known faults to look out for?)

Any foresight on the market for used RRS's and how they will depreciate over the next few years? (I'd ideally keep this car for at least 3 years).

Any tips/hints on best specs or extras I should be looking for?

Thanks very much in advance.

Neil

Thanks @Viper.
I didn't realise there was another facelift in 2010. Was there any exterior updates?

Led's front and rear was the main difference. Big changes in the cabin though.

10MY Facelift

You could also look for Enhanced Leather which gives you Leather Dash and Door panel tops.instead of plastic. Also Contrast stitching on seats also looks great. Some have cold boxes in centre arm rest, and TV. Another extra that could have been fitted is remote FBH that warms car before starting engine Go for the HSE Model itisme

Agreed, the HSE is well spec'ced to start with but if you look around there are lots of additional optional desirable extra's such as those mentioned by harrygh60 and also rear DVD entertainment system, electric sunroof, adaptive cruise (standard on TDV8) and best of all - heated steering wheel.

Hse Extras

Yes there are many more extras that may be on a used car. Mine had £10,000 worth of extras on it when i bought it. Such as the things i mentioned and the things you mentioned. Also colour coded mirrors Door Handles and lower skirts, Autobyography Grill and side vents, 22" Stormer wheels with new tyres Mudflaps.Side Steps Tinted Glass and 14 Speaker sound system. And i fitted the remote FBH at a cost of £233. Very happy i did this. Nice to come out in cold morning to a defrosted and warm car Thumbs Up It does not mean the car will sell for that much more than normal selling price, maybe a little more, but will make it more desirable itisme

I have a TDV8 07 plate with 112k on it, so I am looking to change with a similar budget. Mine is now worth about £14k so my depreciation has been about £4k/annum which isn't bad. For £28k you should aim for the post 10 facelift HSE (early ones were TDV8 but more likely TDV6 which most say is just as good an engine). The miles are likely to be 60 - 70k. Don't worry too much about mileage - full LRSH and bills to show replacement of bearings, ball joints, bushes etc are vital IMO. Get a good warranty once the one from the dealer expires. I had LR warranty which was fine but at the higher mileage Warranty Direct have been good to me. Circa £700pa. Good luck! Smile

Thanks for all the thoughts and comments guys, really appreciated.

From having a good look around last night online, I think I may struggle to get the facelift post 2010 for my budget without higher mileage (80k+) which i don't really want.

Seen a lovely silver 60' plate with 31k on CarGiant - but thats coming in at £30k+

On LandRover approved, I'm seeing a few around 2009 with 40/50k for my budget.
