My BLOG from South America (How Sad is this...)

I´m in the VIP lounge in Madrid airport waiting for my midnight flight out to Buenos Aires and the only thing I can think of doing is checking this forum....

I need help.

If I see any Sports in Argentina I will be sure to post it!

Now sending pics of RRSs from Argentina would be really sad! Add any D3s while there, just don't get caught as that might be like plane spotting on Greece!

OK, OK, this may not be a proper Blog, as I am not entirely sure what a Blog is, other than a diary of stuff no one reads. (So I'm sure this will qualify!)

Arrival in BA was very pleasant, the first time I have slept for a considerable distance on a plane, from the coast of Morrocco to Brazil, my lie almost flat bed seat was ok on Iberia's Business Plus service. As we touched down at 7.15am local time, there was a thick blanket of fog as the sun was just coming up. Wish I'd had my camera at the ready, it was a spectacualr sight.

Also, wish I had read more of my 'How to survive in Spanish' book. My driver from the hotel could speak no English and was gesturing something about a coat and the cold. I tried to explain I was English and I was used to it. Despite it being their Winter, it's been very pleasant here.

The Hilton Hotel here in Buenos Aires is nice, very spacious. It's situated in the Puerto Madero sector, the old docks, all been renovated of course. The cars here are brilliant, a real mix of stuff. There are cars here I thought had been lost forever, old peugeots that were designed by Etch-a-Sketch, ancient Renault's, fords from the thunderbird school of styling, dirty great trucks belching smoke out and I even saw a Ford Caprina. Ever seen one? It's a Cortina at the front and a Capri at the back...excellent!

My weekend was spent mainly looking round shops in shopping centres with the wife. This place is a mecca for leather goods, coats, shoes, bags, anything that can be made of leather, is. I guess they have to make a use of the dead cows somehow! I've not had an Argentinian steak yet.

The exchange rate is brilliant. It's 5.5 Pesos to the Pound. You can buy 3 beers for a pound. A slap up meal with a bottle of wine for two might cost about £15. I am looking to buy a nice quality leather briefcase for work, in London you'd pay £300, here they are £100, and probably better quality, and of course, more unique. I bought a suit, trousers and a pair of superb leather shoes on Saturday for £150. A bargain.

The roads are horrendous, they have lines on them but they are not used. People just drift about, if you see a space, you use it. The potholes are BIG! They don't look after them much, Garages must be doing a roaring trade in suspension items.

There is a huge difference between rich and poor here. The centro area of BA is slick, like most western cities, nice shops, cafe's and restaurants. Stray outside though and you see the crappy side. So far it seems safe, there are Police and the Naval guards everywhere.

Last night we went to a Tango night. It was a champagne reception in this amazing cavern like building, then a 3 course meal with as much wine and beer as you could drink, then a show. I was dubious about the show as I don't like the theatre, but we were feet away from the stage, the music was superb and I think it was telling the story of the Tango dance. The girls were gorgeous and the outfits very pleasing to the eye! All this cost £24 each. How cheap is that?

OK, apologies for the long blog, but if I find anything else interesting I'll let you know.

By the way, I've only seen 2 Freelanders, definitely NOT worth photographing!
