Occupation..

Ok, so we've done the age question..
Now lets see what variety of skills we have together on this forum, and what line of work everyone is in:

On the good old Bm3w forum many of the guys were IT contractors, wonder what the pattern will be on here, well a lot of guys seem to spend a good chunk of "office time" on here, so guess some don't do a fat lot, me included!

I'll kick off then,
I finished Uni in June, Graduated in July,
Am working as a trainee Accountant in Birmingham City Centre. Currently working in Payroll services and VAT. Doing my chartered accountancy examination training on weekends (one day only fortunately).

Also i like to speculate on property and have recently been involved in a few new build sites in the UK and abroad, not such a hot sector to be in nowadays, but we can only hope for better days!

I wonder if this should be in Off-Topic, Kam?

Either way I'm one of those bm3w migratees and also an IT contractor! I'm currently engaged with a very large IT services firm working as a technical architect. Amongst other things, that means I design IT solutions from the ground up. The office isn't that far from where I live but there's not much point me going there given the others in my team are spread all over the globe.

Unlike Kam I have been in my career for 16 years already and am in the process of filling out the necessary forms that will allow me to be officially categorised as Long In The Tooth! Laughing

Cheers

What forms are they then Steve?

Ive already got my pension (well Maxi Isa) sorted ready for my retirement days! as well as insured myself while its still dirt cheap!
My father was quite insistent that i do this as soon as i earned my first 'real' steady pay cheque!

I for my sins, am a Director of my own Finance Company. Having worked as an agent ( again self employed ) for a major finance company who were recently bought out by one of the high street banks. This in effect ended/terminated our agency contract ( through no fault of ours ) after some 30 years ! So we became fully independant and reformed as a LTD company & carried on as before. Only now its my/our money that we lend. Very scary at first but looking back it was something we should have done 10 or 15 years ago. ( isn't hind sight a wonderfull thing )

And.... NO I am not a LOAN SHARK before anyone tries to tarnish me with that brush Wink

LOL! My dad said the same sort of things too if I remember. You know it's all a cleverly worked out subterfuge so that he doesn't have to keep lending you money once you've got a "proper job and a haircut" as my Dad would say!

Yep.. i think thats the case with my pops too..
Although when i spend a large amount of money out of my own funds for "the household" when out running errands, and i kinda hint for a rebate he says: "your money is my money, mine is yours, its all from the same pot!".. but funny how it never seems to work the other way round?

I don't quite know what the term would be across the pond, but I'm a stay-at-home dad to 2 children. Over here, it's sometimes called being "Mr. Mom". I was previously in pharmaceutical and then software sales before.

Fixed Income Quant analyst for a certain 'regal scottish banking institution' in the City.. Cool 'Fixed Income' means bonds/ credit/ derivatives (ie not shares or commodities). A Quant is a kind of maths geek..

Basically means I play with Excel all day to try and come up with wacky ways to make money from the markets. Been here on & off for 10 years, in between have dabbled in full-time skiing, day-trading (baaaad memories), and financial analytic software..

And yes, the daily commute to London from North Leicestershire is a right pig.

Holy crap! Shocked When I was working in the City in my last job, I thought my commute was bad enough at 1:45... how long does it take you? You're in those swanky new Bishopsgate offices?
