Engine failure - historic

Dear Brothers, after a long working time I'm about to make my dream a long time, owning a Land Rover (not sure of a D3 or RR3). However here in Brazil and in other parts of the world there is a history (small actually) of a "catastrophe" in TDV6 engines (like our friend said hgbosch a topic about mileage of D3). It scares me a lot and takes me peace of mind in order to buy a Land. I heard that the D3 manufactured in 2008 are not more prone to this type of defect, because the connecting rods are the same used in most modern motor (in the case of the 3.0 D4). Another rumor is that if you buy a D3 2006/2007 and make the replacement of the oil pump this problem would be theoretically away. OR a more expensive hypothesis, buy a RR Sport equipped with the V8 TDI engine 272hp, that even being manufactured by PSA (Citroen) does not have this defect. I do not want to give up the LR, but this ghost with me! A spare parts here in Brazil would really be a catastrophe because the prices of original parts are extortionate. Any member of the forum would have such technical information? Thank you in advance for your help in my "safe" acquisition. Tupiniquim hug !!!

I really dont know what to think about this engine failures. Few days ago I bought 05 RRS 2.7 TDV6 with 240 000 km milleage. Past owners never had any problems with engine, also i know many D3 here in Poland with milleages about 400 000 km...
Someone told me that this catastrophic failures concern to only 5-7% of produced models.

Brazil

Samson Hello, good morning !! Right here in Brazil for a larger number of breaks with this engine 2.7 TDV6, always caused by lubrication failure, and from what I could ascertain in various posts and information exchange is that the engine has 2.7 PSA project based on a stationary engine, using the same principles of construction, regarding the form of lubrication, so any deficiency in the lubricant oil circuit may cause wear and consequently the loss of oil pressure in the bearings, and fatally engine break. I am very afraid of getting a TDV6 for that reason, but there are news of high mileage achieved with this engine in Discoverys. It can not be neglected in any way with the engine oil (Specification and changeover time). There are reports of addition of 2T oil to diesel and application of PTFE to the lubricant oil, is said to have saved the break commented engines. Read the forum disco3.co.uk user accounts HGBOSCH, there the thing is horrible (he lives in South Africa). Tupiniquim big hug !!!

I cant really see what living in Brazil has to do with anything, production is not due to start there untill 2016, ( China started in 2014 ) so all vehicles exported to Brazil have been made in the UK, maybe it is the oil used when doing a service, using the wrong type maybe, anyway the tdv8 also suffers from engine failure, as well as every car maker world wide, even lamborghini's set on fire and Rolls Royce break down, these things happen.
It is your choice which car to buy, but if you analize every make and model, then you will never buy a car, so jump onboard and buy the best one you can Smile 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

So really what is the truth about 2.7 TDV6? If mine has 240 000 km is there anything to worry about ?

The truth is that: Yes, it will break down, though nobody knows when and why until it happens.
This is true of everything thing, from a jumbo jet down to your kettle.
stop worring about it, and enjoy yourself Smile 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

Shakeapaw, really, all cars have problems, you're right in it, also if desired not spend on maintenance, no one should have a car. However, as I say, is that there is rather a systematic failure of this engine. If you look in other forums notice, by all accounts the most experienced (that do not belong) is suspected of project failure. All manufacturers have their "Achilles heel", but I understand that in this case in particular, there was a failure or at least a deficiency, which does not reach all users, but a good part of them, even those who have the periodic maintenance properly! In an authorized service Land Rover in Brazil are gone 30 broken engines with the same fault diagnosis in lubrication. Not here discusses the quality of the vehicles assembled in the UK, are wonderful! Consumer dream of many, accessible to few.

On the other hand... TDV6 besides failuers is really great Wink Really smooth engine work without any vibrations and really nice power with reasonable fuel economy...

Beautiful Mikey ... tell me more about the D4 ... You also killed the EGR? Consumption improved? It seems to me that the D4 engine already made improvements in bearing bearing insert !!
