United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black
Low Fuel pressure problem :-( please help

Good evening everybody

I am new to this site as I have recently purchased my first range rover sport (took some saving for as I'm only young Smile,
But after a few weeks of owning it it's come up with a fault, to start with it was surging in low revs seems like it was struggling to pick a gear and after a while if you keep driving at low revs would come up with transmit ion fault limited gears available then sticks in 3rd ( but by all accounts this is limp mode from fault ???) turn of the ignition turn back on and its fine again until you are pondering in a village/town but if you keep it above 2000 revs it's changing fine this is the start of my problem Very Happy
Now the engine management light came on so I took it to my local land rover dealer who put it on the diagnostic computer for me were its came up with low fuel pressure in the rail Sad ,I explained to him that I had been having this transmission fault but he explained that the low fuel pressure, would cause this fault, the box needs to change gear but there is not enough pressure at low speeds or something Confused
They were going to start with changing the fuel filter which is cheapest to start but seems to think this wont me a issue as they are lifetime filters and should never need changing, but at a rate of £75 pound a hour cleaning or change the filter is something I could possibly do as I'm not scared of using a spanner so have brought it home, which was 2/3 days ago,now it is really struggling to start once it finally starts it cuts out for the first few times but then I manage to keep it running with loads of smoke and very smelly (petrol) but once revved a few times it settles until you turn it off and try to start again,

I had a little look today but am struggling as I was told you could access the filter and pump from under the seats so stripped the carpets and seats out to discover NOTHING Big Cry ,so have come back to the drawing board , is there anyone on hear that has more knowledge in regards to my problem or suggestions on what my problem could be would it would be very much appreciated just won't to get her out and enjoy her , thank you all in advance Many thanks Astin

Don't use Land Rover official dealerships unless you have to; they are extortionists. Find a good local independent specialist.

Fully charge your battery and check the voltage and alternator output. Check the brake light bulbs are working and are OEM.

The fuel filter is not for life - should be changed every two years. It is under the seat but outside the car! (Well it is on diesel models- not sure about petrol). 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

it's under the car on mine, pretty much directly below drivers seat, same side as the fuel tank. you're gonna have to remove the gearbox undershield to get to it.
EDIT: this is the case for mine anyway, but I have a TDV6. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

Search the forum for 'limited gears' a lot of problems point to alternator and battery. Maybe thats why it won't fire up very easy?

That would be a good start. They need good batteries so check voltage first. I'm not Fat. RRS TDV6 HST.

Australia

Had same problem, driving along then going into limp mode, suspension dropping down. checked fault codes, low fuel rail pressure. Changed fuel filter, fixed problem. Could have been a bad batch of diesel. We get Censored diesel in Oz.
