Private plate

Hi, I'm in the process of buying a private plate for my mum as a gift, just waiting for the certificate of entitlement to come through, my question is, what do I do next regarding transferring the new number onto her car ? Ideally I would like to just give her the new plates wrapped up and then put straight onto her car, I've put her as the nominee so hopefully got that bit right? do I need to try and acquire her current log book then send it and the cert off to the DVLA ?
As I've never done this before I'm hoping there are some experts out there that could give some valuable advise, although any tips would be most appreciated.
Many thanks Terry.. 2015 HSE SDV6 Scotia Grey, ebony / lunar, colour coded, deployable steps, TV, sliding pano and a few other bits. Now gone

I went through this process not long ago..........

You need to send off the V5/MOT/and I think the Insurance documents. I also had to send them my tax disc, but I'm not sure about this since the new rules came in.

I'm pretty sure the entitlement comes with all the info you need to go forward if you bought the plate from the DVLA.

You will need the V5 to have new plates made too.

No need for insurance. If bought through the DVLA site, you'll get some documentation you need to complete and then send that off with the log book. A new log book and MOT will be issued.. take that, some ID to a place that makes plates and voila! If this is your course, all told will probably take about 2-3 weeks with the back and forth with documentation.

If it's on retention, send the retention certificate and log book off to the DVLA, they send a new log book and MOT.. same again, take log book and ID to a place that does plates and pays your monies.

I sent my retention doc off early last week, just had my log book through lunchtime today.. new plates on the RRS now. Might be worth taking some ID of your Mum's too (utility bill or the likes) in case they ask unless the log book is in your name.

I did this last year for my other half although I handed the forms over to VW who fitted the plate on her new car for when she picked it up.. she was happy as larry! Although we were the only people picking up a new car in March of this year with a 51 plate on it Laughing

Cheers..

Ian

Its very hard in the UK.

Here, order whatever combination you want online, pay the money, 3 weeks later a letter comes from the DOT. Go down to the Driver Licensing Centre, park car, unscrew old plates, take them to the desk, collect new plates and put them on the car. Done! Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

BK in WA do you have to pay annually for the private plates (as we do in NSW), or can you purchase them outright aka Queensland ?

NSW milk it then, you basically hire it per annual registration cycle..then again it gives you flexibility to change if you move to another brand.. i paid approx $500 a year Another Pommie Bar Steward down under
