United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black
Security Update

My car is going in for a Winter Check service tomorrow, I told them I wasn't very happy about the security on the Sport, they said they will do a security update on it when it's in !!!! They also would check how many keys have be coded into the car, and another security measure, but she wouldn't tell me what they are going to do.
Anybody else had this update ???
Will try and get more info tomorrow, I am sure they will have to tell me what they are going to do with MY car.
Will keep you posted MY 13 3.0 SDV6 HSE Black Edition

Hi.

I would think that it wouldn't be a security update if they told you what was happening! They are avoiding people coming on forums and saying "Hey, I've just had x,y,z done to my car...."
It then gives the thieves a chance at bypassing the system!

Cheers

Yes, it was showing one earlier in the year and was applied to my car at the time of first service but I assumed GDM meant there was a new one in response to recent thefts. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

the latest to me on the subject...
Dear Mr Barber,

Thank you for your response and please accept my apologies for the error in title, I assure you no discourtesy was intended.

We have produced a number of security updates for the affected vehicles and will continue to pro-actively address concerns that are identified. This applies equally to existing vehicles as well as new vehicles that have been involved in the recently raised concerns. Any available software and security updates are applied during routine visits to your Land Rover approved retailer.

If you do have any concerns or wish to have a free security check, I would advise visiting your local Land Rover approved retailer.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Jones

Thanks for the email that says nothing at all but gives the party line. Really useful for new vehicles coming out, but nothing for the existing vehicles.

Thanks also for informing me of my sex change and marriage, neither of which I was aware off. At least in the thirty odd years I have been dealing with LR, I can still rely on their CR being crap

Dear Mrs Barber,

Thank you for contacting Land Rover via Twitter.

I can certainly appreciate your concerns regarding vehicle security
due to the recent focus on the subject. In regards to the concerns
that have been recently raised, they have been regarding vehicle with
keyless entry only.

This is an extremely serious issue for the automotive industry. At
Jaguar Land Rover, we have been working closely with the Metropolitan
Police and other forces across the country which has resulted in a
number of prosecutions to date. This is an industry-wide issue, as
European legislation mandates all vehicle manufacturers make available
information about their diagnostic systems, including any security
updates.

To address the concerns raised, we have a dedicated engineering team
continuously developing new technologies to try to stay one step ahead
of criminal gangs. In addition, we work closely with vehicle security
experts Thatcham Research, who, in turn, work on behalf of the UK
insurance industry. The ABI (Association of British Insurers) has
confirmed that insurance for our vehicles is widely available.

Should you however still have concerns or wish to ensure your vehicle
has the most up to date software and security updates, I would suggest
booking with your local Land Rover approved retailer, who will be able
to carry out a free security check.

Yours sincerely,

Took it to the dealers yesterday, they have done a security update, also checked to see how many keys are programmed to the car , and they asked me if I wanted my OBD port moving to a secret position, which I said yes. So if they did get inside they would struggle to plug a gadget into it at the normal place. I don't know if I did right or wrong, but if it delays the thieving scumbags, it must be better. Also going buying a Disclock steering wheel lock. Not had chance to look where they have put it or how they have moved it will have to wait til weekend. MY 13 3.0 SDV6 HSE Black Edition

Moving OBD Port

Hi,

Can I ask how much did your dealer charge for moving the OBD port? Mine is asking for £150 + VAT. I would have thought LR should cover the cost of this but that was wishful thinking.

Good for you Thumbs Up Not the case here Laughing One local dealer gave me the price I mentioned. The other kept me on hold for ages and eventually asked me to call back later. When I did ring back, again no one was available in the service department to talk to me so I left my name and number. Waiting for a call ever since. Both are forum sponsors Whistle although I didn't feel I needed to mention the forum for something like this. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
