4.2 fuel economy. pleasant surprise

since i have had my 4.2 i have only driven round town and the odd trip down the a13, and have been getting 10-12 mpg.
i left y house for a wedding saturday morning for a trip round the m25 and up tha A1. with half a tank and the range saying 110 miles which is about right with my driving and fill ups. the roads were clear so i put the cruise on at 70. this was a 95 mile round trip and when i got home i still had quarter of a tank. i thought this trip was going to cost about 45 but was actually only about 25. the mpg gauge read 23.7 at its highest but not sure how accurate they are.
i was shocked how the economy changed so much.

yeah, they are pretty rubbish around town - having to shift 2.5 ton away from a standstill all the time eats the fuel!

I've been surprised myself by how much more economical they are at cruise though. Here in NZ it is costing around $180 to fill from empty - and around town that yields a range of about 400km (sorry. you'll have to do the math if you want it in imperial!)

On a trip the range jumps to 550-600km which is pretty good. Still hideous at a weeks take home wage for the average New Zealander to fill though... Shocked Every home should have one!
