I had to put my spare wheel on my car recently and seemed to spend ages by the side of the road using the LR jack! To put it mildly, it's not very good! Would a high lift bottle jack be quicker, safer, easier etc? When I had a Disco2, changing a wheel took a few minutes rather than up to half an hour! Anyone carry one in their car and any recommendations?

I use a bottle jack as a) the car is too heavy for a wind up and they aren't stable, and b) towing a caravan and needing a just in case as LR jack won't locate in chassis. One joy is that Fullfat has huge under floor area to store it. Mine came out of a scrapped Mitsubishi L200 and lifts 2ft even though less than 12" in height. It used to have to sit under back seats in Sport. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

If you have a look over on the Disco 3 sister website you'll find the boys over there have discovered the bottle jack from a Mercedes Sprinter van is ideal and can be easily modified so the top of the jack fits neatly into the locating hole for the jack in the chassis rail. There was a guy selling brand new ones on ebay and may still have some stock.

I just have the standard chocolate jack too but always thought if I suffer a puncture on a dark windy night on a busy motorway it is going to be a call to the AA. Seen too many horrific accidents on the hard shoulder to even consider changing the wheel myself in those conditions; much safer with big van with flashing lights parked behind it and a proper jack!
(Just remember to make the call to the AA in a squeaky voice and claim to be a woman on your own - the big yellow taxi will be there in no time.) 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
