2006 RRS - 2.7 HSE - Reliability (84k Miles)

Just replaced and repaired

Battery - Alternator - Turbo - Suspension ECU - Suspension Control Arms and Bushes - Suspension Height Sensor x 1 - Connectors and Wiring to Suspension Sensors have been Overhauled - Brake Discs - numerous other odd and sods

Can anyone tell me what i should expect to go next, just so i can be ready for it . I look after my car like a baby so I am just unlucky or is all this to be expected

Do you think there is a good chance it will be reliable now ?

Ouch! I just had a similar with mine only had it 6 months!
Mine was compressor, tc, egr, and bushes lol although I haven't fixed the tc just flushed it and put some Dr tranny in which has, lessened....... The noise lol

Sorry to hear that

i dumped the EGR valves a while back , best thing I ever did

Turbo was a in great nick, it was just the boost control unit that failed which is a ten bob part but comes as part of the turbo - I have heard horror stories of tired Turbos disintegrating and being sucked in to the engine and a 9k Fix not long after

I'm sure the turbo failures are mainly related to the v8 twin turbos.

Yes mostly agree with that, although I did meet a guy at an RRS meet who needed a new engine via the turbo , but to be honest his was not the best kept RRS i have seen, so maybe he had bullied it !!!!

think your a bit unlucky if everything needs doing at once Shocked

You may be still have the compressor and heater plugs to go yet Rolling Eyes

But the reason I bought my car was because most of the jobs you have done, the last owner had just had done then thought it was time to change it, Hopefully it should all be good for me for another 50K Very Happy

It is a big heavy car thought so things like pads, discs, bushes, ball joints, battery are all service items really

Keep it and enjoy it, you have done most of the work already Thumbs Up

Yes guess you a basically right in what you say , problem for me now is i need to use the car to travel in Europe for a while and reliability has become a major issue for me, if the compressor goes could be a pain depending on where I am , heater plugs eh ! not heard much about those , do they get worse in time or do they just quit ?

They are very prone to breaking when you try to remove them. What should be an hour or 2 to replace turns into a body off/heads off job, costing a couple of grand...

You may be lucky and the plugs come out. It has happened before Thumbs Up

Hi,
think you will find the car harder to start when its cold weather if any of the heater plugs have gone
previous owner of my car had this and got the garage to replace all of them... as DM says they may come out ....
then again....
some did, some did not and he needed one of the heads off Rolling Eyes so they did the rear belt while they were at it Whistle and he got a large bill.

as for the compressor, when I was looking for a car I would have took it for a run first then engine running go from, access up to normal, then up to off road, would want it to do this twice before you get the "slow to raise" message and make sure in between each stage is reached before selecting the next, have a listen how noisy the pump is as well

it might not narrow a test down for just the compressor but the whole set up.

yes, got belts done at main dealers for £499.00 ( The rear belt too), done during the service, Origanlly asked me for £799.00

We have a guy locally who does heater plugs for £50 a plug. He can remove broken ones without having to remove the body, found out about him when I attempted to change heater plugs on our disc 3 and ended up taking the body off and heads. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜
