Sea Kayak Roof Rack Options

Hello everyone,

I have purchased a sea kayak but im not picking it up until January when im over in Oban.
Now that gives me time to figure out carrying systems.

Has anyone else put a Sea kayak on the roof? what system did you use?

Bearing my mind i have nothing on my roof.....its naked!

thanks in advance for any help.

Ross

Hi Rangey - I've been carrying kayaks for years - not sea kayaks unfortunately although I have tried one and keep thinking of adding one to my collection Embarassed

I have tried the thule aftermarket bars but on FL2 and RRS I preferred to fit the genuine roof rails and bars as I just feel they are more secure/solid Thumbs Up

Carrying 2 with Thule upright rack and without

For more than 2 I use the upright

Because of the overhang make sure you use straps front and back like this -

Thanks for the reply.

I was looking at the roof rails and crossbars last night. over £400 for Land Rover ones. I will have to do some more hours at work. nooo.

I have heard good things about the yakima rollers.

I got an NDK sea Kayak Explorer cracking boat.

Thanks for attaching the pictures its actually the first time i have seen kayaks on a RRS roof Very Happy

You might be ok with aftermarket and the Yakima rollers especially as you will be strapping front and back Confused

My kayaks are shorter so I don't bother with front/rear straps and was worried about seesaw action and damage to roof. I also carry a roof box and the safe load is higher for fitted system Thumbs Up

I bought the powerfuluk rails/bars first but they were Censored and sent them back then bought the genuine set from Duckworths Bow down

These are a cheaper alternative but the spacing is not suitable for my roof box Rolling Eyes

To be honest i think ill just bite the bullet and get Land Rover ones,

Or be hawk eyed on here for anyone selling a pair. Smile

I saw an amazing side loading automated roof rack when i was on a dive expedition in Cape Wrath.
