Wales 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

my thoughts on high mileage cars ? Even brand new ones get problems/faults !

I've had brand new cars that have given me more headaches than 10 years old 100k mileage ones.

My way of thinking is - buy the car you want/like, keeping about £2k back, just in case, for repairs etc. ie. if you have £17k to spend, buy a high mileage one for £15k, and spend the £2 saved on it

I have mates who've searched the country high and low for low mileage 'looked after' cars, only to have to spend £5k on them within months. Better the devil you know, I'd say. And if you do get a good one at less cost, you're quids in.  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

Personally speaking i would not be over concerned with high mileage if the vehicle in question has been properly maintained. In the past i have owned 2 D3s, 1 was a 70000 mile HSE and the other was a 140000 mile SE
The 140000 mile SE was by far the least problematic of the 2, it had had all the "regular" D3/RRS problems addressed (cambelts, suspension arms, air compressor etc.) and cost far less over my ownership than the HSE
All cars carry an element of risk but if the price i right and the car is nice i would say go for it. Over on the D3 forum there are some owners with cars with almost 500K miles Thumbs Up

Body off to do a TDV8 right turbo, left can be done in situ if you are double jointed and have tiny hands. The V6 turbo is under left bank so more easily accessed once down pipe out the way, still a faff to get oil feed reconnected. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

Mine had both turbos replaced BODY ON. It's a pain, apparently, but it can be done. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Tonga Green
Jumping in on this thread! :-D

Hi,

First poster here, and this topic is the situation that I am currently in. Im looking at buying my first RRS HSE. I dont have a huge budget, approx £13-14k, but know that I can get a lot of car for this amount of money.

Ive been looking at the market, studying price vs age vs milage, and although there are cars out there on lowish miles (60k-70k) in my price braket, I think I am going to look for a vehicle that has just broken 110k-120k miles, with only 1 owner, FSH.

My thinking is:

* 1 owner - They had enough money to purchase this car from new, so would have been in a good position to maintain it to a high standard. Also, you dont generally own a car for 7-10 years that has issues, you would sell it and move on. Every car that I have purchased over the last few years have been 1 owner cars, and apart from general maintenance (touch wood) ive never really experienced any major issues. My current BMW 530d SE was owned from new by a Doctor, and the engine is as strong as an ox!

* 110k-120k miles - This would work out at approx 15k miles per year (8 year old car), so would suggest more motorway miles that stop/start journey's. Combined with a FSH then the last major service of 105k would have been completed so Cam belt, main fluid changes, gear box oil change etc etc. would be completed in line with the maintenance schedule.

I have looked at a few over 120k miles, but then you are starting to get to the position of having to re-replace the parts for maintenance, as your in reality working back through the RRS maintenance schedule, just on a higher mileage vehicle.

Obviously all this can mean nothing, as ultimately the vehicle is ageing, and you will experience issues, but hopefully risk can be minimised if putting some logical thought into the buying process.

1/. My query is regarding the build year of the vehicle. The range has been from 2005-2007, are there any major differences between this period, or was the general build the same? I know from previous vehicles that sometimes you can get a period where there seems to be an issue with the build for a number of cars between a set date. I thought that I had read somewhere that there was something from the 2007 model, but I cant remember where I saw this, or find the information.

2/. I am looking at the HSE model, and have found the differences between the S model to HSE Luxury model, but are there any optional extra's that people can recommend to keep my eye out for? (Things that you just cant live without?). Im looking for rear DVD players (2 small children) but not sure what other "toys" were available. Ultimately I can have DVD's retrofitted if I find the right car without them.

BIG first post, but as always any help is always appreciated!! Thumbs Up
