Ok guys, slow down now and hold your horses.
This is a great story but it just doesn't add up. Before you too carried away with this story, I am compelled to ask this guy: are you for real or are you just yanking our chain?
Personally I don't buy this story. This is the Uk and not some jungle for crying out loud. And this is 2014, not 1960. Exclamation

Whilst the story sounds a little far fetched and we could be being trolled...

.... I think we have to be a little more considerate with our wording and sarcasm and give the benefit of the doubt , as

these scams do exist, people do get caught by them not every one is completely savvy ..and not least of all, some of these

scams are quite elaborate and illusive .

I would rather be nice and helpful even though possibly being trolled ....than poke fun at him on the off chance poor chissin is

sitting somewhere seriously out of pocket down in the dumps and being poked fun at on a forum he came to for advice and

support

Addendum.... It may also be that I have now spent sufficient time out of London... and I have now gone soft.... Laughing 2014.5 SDV6 AB Dynamic ... Fuji /Santorini Pan roof and 22's

Suggest?......Nothing,....but on the bright side....at least the cops took your sport before you forked out another three grand for the wheels and dodgy paintwork. Mr. Green

The car paint work is not in good condition and all wheels were scuffed. I think it would cost around 2-3K to repair.

Considering the amount involved, you should be going to the police station in person. I would have pitched my tent outside Scotland Yard until they find the police officers that removed my car whether it was cloned or not. 2008 TDV8, Java Black, Ebony Sports Seats, Side Steps, Zebrano, Privacy Glass, Premium ICE, Hybrid TV.

England 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Bonatti Grey

This is my first post so I dont want to appear too forward, however I am genuinely surprised at the innocence shown and the lack of support.
This incident is all too common as it is one of the few ways that high powered vehicles that have been written off can be back on the road using a stolen/donor vehicle. Organied crime groups hunt round for suitable wrecks they buy through many different and legal means and then off they go to find a suitable donor vehicle. Once the swap has been complete they will sell through the pages of Autotrader to the unsuspecting Joe Public. Sometimes using houses 'borrowed' for the day or by meeting people at convenient locations (Motorway service areas)
The flip side to this is when the Police do turn up to recover the vehicle the new buyer no matter what they may or may not have done will loose the vehicle. The court may decide to hand it back but generally the vehicle will be handed back to the Insurance company that has paid out against the loss. The Insurance company may then sell the car back to the new owner so in essence you buy the car twice.
The other route that can be taken is a high court writ against the seller who may or may not be protected by the bankruptcy.

In relation to the investigation I dont think Thames Valley Police have served you well in relation to the way they have dealt with the recovery of the vehicle. The reason they didn't take a statement from you is probably because you could in their eyes be a 'suspect' and as the investigation was being run by another force they would not have muddied the waters by taking statement in relation to how you came by the vehicle.
You are unfortunately at the hands of the Met in relation to the way they work. However given the time frame since the car was receovered from you you should speak with your own insurnace company and rasie a disputed ownership claim as you have bought the vehicle in good faith their legal team should be able to help you with that.
You also need to make contact with Thames valley and the Met and raise a crime. You are a victim as much as the original owner of the car. You are entitled to have your Fraud investigated in the same way and if that doesnt get you anywhere then you need to make a complaint no matter what has happened you are also a victim. gone but not forgotten 2003 4.4 RR Vogue

Thank you JDF for the update on how these crooks get by, really informative and useful.
chisin669, how are you getting on with this case? Have you spoken to the police? Your lawyer? Anyone else?
Have you been to the house where the transaction took place again?
