Help with torque wrench please!

Bought my first ever torque wrench yesterday, usually just 'do things up tight' but thought I should do things properly with this car. Anyway, got a big 60 - 300nm wrench from halfords, with the help of a 45% discount via a blagged trade card, and thought I'd check the wheel nuts. Set the wrench to 140Nm and give it a go. I thought the nuts were already pretty tight but the wrench was not clicking, just tightened the nuts further, though it was very hard to tighten. In fear of braking the nuts (have snapped one previously) I dropped the wrench to. 60nm just to ensure it worked, but even at this setting it didn't click, just tightened further. Surely that's not right? Is 60nm difficult to achieve with a 55cm long wrench? I tried several nuts but all the same, wrench did not click even at 60....am I doing something wrong or do I need more time in the gym!!

Can't see how? It's a push through type, ratchets one way then tightens the other, until it reaches specified torque then should click???

I've got the halfords pro 300 nm torque wrench which is probably the same one you have and very good tool
Definitely not a cheap and nasty wrench so obviously one that seems to have missed the quality control Thumbs Up

Time to put my hands up and confess to being an idiot! Took the wrench to a mechanic mate who explained that you just got 1 click as your indicator of torque, I was expecting it to slip like a ratchet when it reached the required setting. That could have been extremely embarrassing had I taken the wrench back, especially as I'd told them yesterday I was a mechanic!! Feel free to take the p**s, I deserve it!
