cruise control stopped working - do i have to stop to reset

I was traveling at around 70 mph with CC on and the forward distance set at mid distance.
A car pulled into my lane causing the car to automatically break, then I had a signal come up (forgot what it said0 but it had a pic of a service book and question mark IIRC.
The car then went into limp home mode, so I pulled over and restarted, the car was fine and ran normally but CC wouldn't then work.
I then stopped the car for a longer period and all is now fine.

Any ideas what would cause this to happen?
Is it normal for me to need to stop before it will reset itself?

Thanks in advance,
Craig

Just had something very similar.
The fault that came up was ' ACC Blocked', but when you stopped the car and re started, it cleared itself. Not long after it would do it again.

Diagnostic's came up with a faulty Brake pedal switch giving off wrong signals. Had it changed, and it seems ok at the moment.

Will be giving it a thorough test towing the tin tent down the M5 his Saturday.

Hello Gargy,
Does sound similar but mine seems to have sorted itself out now, with no error messages.
Im not really sure if mine was caused by a car pulling out or if it was me breaking without realizing it.
Thinking back, I did get a message saying driver intervene and after this, the car went into what i call "limp home mode"
The thing that I find a bit odd is that it wouldn't reset when I stopped but it did reset after I got home and left the car for a while.

I will take note of what youve said as a potential solution, should it happen again.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy causing a queue all the way to the West Country Very Happy

Lets hope the sun shines for you,
Craig

it could have been something that had just blown up and covered the sensor i.e. a leaf or a bit of plastic bag which would render it useless when you stopped it simply fell off
just a thought

now map sensor intermittent fault?

Not sure on that, as I was on a motorway at the time, ie. not in a country lane.
I won't discount that theory though as anything is possible.

Since then I have had one issue, which I don't think is related.

I had an message come up, saying engine system fault.
I took it to my local indie, who plugged in the diagnostics and the message came up, that there was an intermittent map sensor fault.

Probably unrelated and the car seems fine.
The garage said, it could be something very simple, such as a small hole in an air inlet hose or some gunk on the sensor.

any thoughts anybody?
