I think I need a new bottom end

I have posted about elsewhere but after reading through past posts I think I know what my problem is.

If you have not seen my other post then here goes. My wife was driving her 2.7 TDV6 when she rang to say it was knocking and smoking, we think its diesel in the oil from over fuelling as this we have heard is common on this model.

I think the bottom end needs to come off and the crank and bearings need replacing, I would rather try this than fork out £3k on a second hand engine as I don't have the money. I don't have a hoist or lift so cant take the body off and would rather leave the engine in the car. Can this be done>? or ???????

Any help guys as I something is telling me that no matter what I try I am still taking ££££££££££££££ and head scratching

I can't help you, but I would certainly get an expert opinion on this issue, if its a common issue I have not heard about it even with my many visits to my indie, we have a good chat over a brew while his minions fix, repair, service my car 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

I actually heard its a common fault on the Jaguar XJ with the same engine fitted, I have been told that other than the shell all parts are the same

there is actually a guy on there who has been offered an XJ6 with the same problem but no one seems to be able to help him but they are all saying over fuelling, that's where I got the idea from.

From what I can tell from here the bottom ends go on these engines a lot, not too sure why but I see a lot of people are changing cranks or engines.

I have seen used engines go between £2k and £3k, and that more than I can spend right now, I have experience with petrol engines and from what I can see the bottom ends on diesels are pretty much the same so I feel confident I can take this on with some help from a friend in the trade, I just need to know if it can be done realistically with the engine in the car? I am willing to strip it down to find out, but I cant do it myself then I will have to sell it on to someone who can afford it or have what the need to fix it.
